Position Overview
Reporting to the HR Manager, the HR Generalist is responsible for generalist and administrative HR activities. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring HR professional to gain additional functional knowledge.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Administrative responsibilities including, but not limited to, data entry, scanning, filing, tracking information, etc. in regards to routine employee forms and documentation. Examples would include discipline forms, personal data changes, and employee terminations, including entry, calculations and routing of appropriate paperwork.
Assists Human Resources team with special projects as assigned, including compilation of data, data analysis and report preparation/generation.
Assist with meeting, maintaining and distribution of Department of Transportation requirements as it relates to driver files and drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Conduct new hire orientations and assists with onboarding.
Assists with review, revision and updates of HR policies and procedures as needed.
Communicates with employees on questions they may have about benefits, policies, and procedures in a timely manner.
When applicable, conducts and documents HR related investigations, including, but not limited to, EEO complaints, harassment complaints and general employee issues.
Provide counsel and coaching to employees on a wide range of personnel matters.
Assists with recruitment initiatives, to include attending Job Fairs and building relationships with schools, colleges and community organizations.
Assists with Compliance reporting such as EEO/AAP.
Assist with FMLA, Disability and Workers' Compensation claims to ensure consistency in how the claims are handled and communicates as needed with vendor and employee.
Serve as back up for human resources staff on all human resources related matters.
Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
Other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline preferred.
Two+ years of experience with HR administration strongly preferred.
Valid state driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
Work Requirements
Must be 18 years in age or older.
Must submit to pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a "need to know" basis.
Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures.
Highly effective oral and written communication skills required.
Ability to operate office equipment including, but not limited to: computers, copiers, ten key adding machine, printers, etc.
Proficiency of MS Excel and Word applications required.
Basic Process Improvement Awareness required.
Passion and ability to interact and influence all levels of the organization - from the plant floor to the leadership team.
Strong customer service abilities.
Ability to analyze issues independently.
Ability to perform under deadline pressure.
Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions.

Understanding and experience of basic HR systems and reporting is helpful.
