Research Assistant II - Weiss Lab

The focus of the Weiss NIH-funded lab is the study of mitochondrial dysfunction in sepsis using blood samples from patients with sepsis, animal models of sepsis, and in vitro cell lines. The Research Assistant II will work in-person within the lab to perform a range of experiments and data analysis under the direction of Lab Manager, Research Associate, and or PI.

Applicants for this position should have a strong work ethic with excellent attention to detail, as well as experience with basic laboratory methods, including pipetting, blood cell isolation (e.g., Ficoll density gradient), cell culture maintenance, preparation of solutions, RNA/DNA isolation, ELISA, electrophoresis, and Western blotting. Additional skills or experience in spectrophotometry and PCR are welcome, but not required. A Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience required.

The position will also require use of high-resolution respirometry, which is a specialized skill for which prior experience is welcome but not required. Familiarity with basic computing skills, including Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint, is necessary.

This position will include working with a dedicated team based in the Weiss lab, in collaboration with scientists and technicians throughout Nemours, Jefferson, and other institutions. The applicant would have access to senior supervising scientists, but should also be comfortable with independent work. Opportunities will be available to participate and/or lead data analysis, literature searches, scientific presentation, and abstract/manuscript preparation. Co-authorship on all work products is promised commensurate with intellectual and practical contributions to each project. The position requires in-person attendance at weekly lab meetings and a commitment to the collective success of the lab.
