The Analytics Product Management organization within Digital & Analytics is entrusted with key Business & Analytics' team relationships, iterative delivery and measurement of business value, and application of agile and product management best practices. The organization works closely with partners in the Data & Analytics Engineering organization.
The Business Product Owner (BPO) is customer-focused and acts as a conduit between the Agile Team(s) and the Customer (for this role: internal stakeholders who use legacy client reporting solutions such as CAP). The BPO partners with the Delivery Manager, the Delivery Leads in Engineering, and others to ensure that business value is delivered on time and within budget. The BPO also partners with the Analytics org for methodology, calculations, and content. This BPO will focus on delivery on industry leading solutions (from a content and technology perspective) for standard Client Reporting needs that are currently supported by CAP.
The BPO is also responsible for defining the vision, scope, and priority of the program backlog to be delivered by the Agile Release Train (ART). The BPO reviews the quality of the product that the team produces. This BPO will secure requirements from stakeholders, articulate the need in a way that articulates business value, secure the business rules, logic, detailed requirements and use this to write features user stories for the Engineering team(s). Features will be written in a way that ensure iterative business value is delivered, vs. creating single, large components of work at a time.
Primary Responsibilities


  • Is the "voice of the customer," ensuring that the highest value work is being delivered in a way that not only meets the customer's need, but delivers incremental value frequently

  • Facilitates individual conversations with the business to understand their needs for new solutions as well as solution enhancements

  • Works with the business to identify and track early indicators that the Product/ solution is meeting the need as well as lagging indicators that prove business value was delivered

  • Develops Test Plans including detailed scenarios to test prior to approval of the solution

  • Facilitates regular sessions with their team(s) to allow for demonstration of solutions that start with the user story (the ask) and allow the user story to be accepted (or rejected)

  • Prioritizes the team(s) backlog based on business timelines, business value potential, and team capacity

  • Writes business objectives, features and user stories in advance of the upcoming PI

  • Facilitates PI planning sessions with their team to review and approve user stories for the upcoming PI

  • Develops and manages the KPIs (key performance indicators) for their product(s)

  • Communicates progress to relevant stakeholders (including internal Cigna stakeholders)


Background and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and/or 5 years' experience in analytics and/or analytics data is required

  • 2+ years Agile experience, preferably in a Product Owner or Product Manager role, is required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills is required; individual must be polished and professional, and have experience interacting with senior leadership. Must demonstrate a high "EQ" (emotional intelligence) in all situations.

  • Product management experience is strongly desired; candidate must demonstrate a "product mindset" with the ability to problem solve, collaborate, and deliver business value in an iterative fashion.

  • Experience in healthcare environment is preferred; client reporting experience is a huge plus

  • Experience with Jira or Rally for documenting project requirements is preferred

  • Strong business acumen is preferred

  • Experience building use cases based on expected value and estimate costs is required

  • Experience measuring results post-implementation is required

  • Experience in roadmap creation and management is preferred

  • Excellent organization skills are required

  • Must be a problem solver

  • Must be able to delegate

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is required

  • Flexibility to change course based on business needs as required; operates well with ambiguity

  • Strategic thinking is required; must be able to track to goals and deadlines in the context of the big picture

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 85,400 - 142,400 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
