Position Overview

Responsible for the management of regulatory compliance for all Shelly North mining properties and providing support to the mine planning department by analyzing data, providing reports, creating maps and preparing technical documents. The role will also support the operations and technical services group in drone inventory management, maintaining and renewing permits, lease agreements, and wildlife site certification.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Mining and Environmental Compliance


  • Completes Ohio Department of Natural Resources Industrial Minerals Report.

  • Coordinates with environmental consultants to complete and submit wetland and zoning permits.

  • Coordinates with government agencies on required compliance issues.

  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations in the supervision of reclamation activities for both active and inactive sites

  • Facilitates agreements with neighboring landowners of mine sites.

  • Assist in maintaining certification status of wildlife sites and coordinating events

Mine Planning


  • Short, medium and long-range mine planning activities.

  • Surveys, plans and designs stripping, land and tree clearing of mine sites.

  • Plan and coordinate exploration projects for existing and Greenfield operations.

  • Other project engineering type work.

  • Assists in acquisitions and sales of property.

Inventory Management

  • Assist with inventory management activities including flyovers and volume calculations.

Project Engineering

  • Works with management and mine site professionals on other issues as needed.

  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.

  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

  • Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.

  • Strict adherence to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.

  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

  • Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Shelly Company employees. Employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's or associates degree in engineering, geology, earth sciences or equivalent preferred; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficient with MS Office product suite and experience with CAD and/or GIS preferred.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move more than 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to wet, humid condition airborne particles, and extreme heat or cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require protective equipment.
