Job Description

DEFINITION

A provider of direct psychiatric services for patients.  Assists in planning, organizing, coordinating and directing professional service activities and programs assigned. 

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED


  • Provides psychiatric services to a variety of assigned Clinical areas; performs assessments of patients admitted to assigned unit(s).

  • Provides care and treatment of patients including prescribing medications and other appropriate treatment. 

  • Assesses the patient’s response to treatment by documenting the patient’s progress in the progress notes.   

  • Completes discharge summaries on patients released from the center in accordance with JCAHO standards, as well as DMHSAS and ESH policies and procedures. 

  • Coordinates with the director or his/her designee on budget requests for equipment, supplies and personnel for the Clinical areas; assists with appropriate personnel training; allocates resources for best possible utilization in the out-patient, admissions and satellite areas.  Ensures admissions and transfers are within the framework of the law.

  • Assists in ensuring the adequacy of the Quality Assurance program in conjunction with the Coordinator.  Monitors and provides treatment in the out-patient and day hospital departments.  Assists the Executive Director or his/her designee in the supervision of training of residents in training. 

  • Assists in the evaluation of workloads, statistical reporting, and determining effectiveness of programs and institutes necessary actions to affect necessary changes in programs, reviews and analyzes policies and identifies need for new or revised procedures and policies.

  • Assists in supervising and monitoring statistical reports and research on state facility funded programs; designs necessary date programs and controls to gather and report the required information.

  • Assists in insuring internal audits of various programs as requested by the Executive Director or his/her designee to ensure compliance with federal, state, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and facility policies; coordinates with agencies concerned, devises systems, follows up on compliance with directed policies or procedural changes.

  • Supervises medical students, physician assistant students and residents during their psychiatric rotation.

  • Provides other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge in the fields of psychiatry and physical medicine. Must possess assessment skills for appropriate evaluation and treatment of psychiatric and physical illnesses.  Must possess written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, and record keeping, charting skills and basic math skills; ability to provide leadership to team members.  Ability to record observations and activities, follow oral and written instructions, maintain effective working relationships with others, and to intervene quickly in a crisis.  Ability to make a variety of complex clinical decisions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must be licensed to practice Medicine or osteopathy by the State of Oklahoma and be Board Certified.
