Job Overview

Responsible for managing production and shipping personnel and equipment resources to achieve on-time delivery of quality products, minimize scrap, maximize efficiencies, and meet safety objectives.  Responsible for ensuring a trained and empowered work force.

Job Responsibilities


  • Directs and manages plant operations for production, quality, and shipping.

  • Coordinates plant activities through planning with other managers to ensure that total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.

  • Manage labor and operates with budgets.

  • Establishes and monitors overall plant performance for production and quality standards.

  • Controls and minimizes labor overtime, premium freight, and repair expenses.

  • Collaborates with the EVP hard goods division to develop a continuous improvement program for increased efficiency, reduction of waste and costs.

  • Works collaboratively with the Facilities Manager to maintain existing plant facilities and equipment; recommends replacement or adjustments to plant facilities and equipment when necessary.

  • Promote, develop, and maintain a work environment that promotes employee inclusion, recognition, and effective communication.

  • Maintain effective, positive employee relations in the facility, in order to enable alphabroder to attract, retain, and motivate highly qualified employees.

  • Provide and promote a safe work environment.

  • Ensure compliance of all company policies, including but not limited to, all Federal, State and local OSHA regulations.

  • Provides leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives.

  • With Facilities Manager, implements and maintains preventative maintenance programs.

  • Incorporates shop floor organization and plant cleanliness into performance evaluation of plant personnel.

  • Provides direction, development, and leadership to production supervisors.


  • Delivers training and provides coaching and counseling to develop the production associates and ensures their capabilities to function in a self-directed environment.

  • Ensures the production associates understand management expectations and operating goals and objectives.

  • Implements programs as required which build and support a production environment to achieve high performance work status.

  • Facilitates the work team problem solving process to ensure that the team attains, retains, and effectively applies appropriate problem-solving techniques.

  • Ensures that effective linkages exist between the work team’s action plans and the overall manufacturing operation plan.

  • Responsible for production team attaining established objectives.

  • Guides work team planning and decision making to achieve a high profitability by effectively addressing operational and personnel challenges to ensure a high degree of manufacturing operations effectiveness.

Key Relationships


  • Reports directly to the VP hard goods division.  This relationship is critical.  A high level of trust between the Production Manager and the VP hard goods division is necessary for operational success.

  • Directs the efforts of Production Supervisors and Shipping Manager.  Trusting, respectful relationships are essential.

  • Strong, trusting, supportive and collaborative relationships with all members of management are essential to success.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or Management preferred with a minimum of five to ten years related experience with progressive production management responsibilities in a manufacturing environment; A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to develop, read, analyze, and interpret complex documents such as sales plans and forecasts. Ability to listen effectively.  Ability to effectively convey complex ideas to others; Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations to senior management, employee groups, and customers. Bilingual is a plus.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to plan, develop and manage budgets.  Ability to understand complex statistical operations and financial statements.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism (formulae, scientific equations, graphs, etc.).  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

                OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to effectively relate to a wide range of individuals and organizations in a dynamic environment.
