Associate Scientist Global Cocoa Sourcing Technology at Mars, Incorporated in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

A technical expert in cocoa raw materials, processes and quality. This role requires some knowledge of the cocoa raw material supply chains including the quality and food safety risks associated with the raw materials. The role will be required to develop and execute experimentation around supply, processes and approaches to mitigate risks, improve quality and drive efficiency into the cocoa raw material network globally through standardization and by effectively integrating scientific discipline into the research.

Minimum Requirements

• BS degree in Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry or related technical field OR a BS/BA degree with 2+ years in R&D


• Up to 15% Travel

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry or related technical field


• Some or In depth knowledge of cocoa supply chains, sensory evaluation, food safety and quality risks associated with these raw materials and development of risk mitigation strategies for Mars.


• Essential understanding of key recipe, raw material and process specifications that deliver quality product at expected scale.


• Essential project management competency for meeting budget and timing on project execution.

What will be your key responsibilities?

• Design and develop cocoa raw materials, processes, recipes and specifications that translate to full scale production and provide competitive advantage to Mars Inc.


• Design and execute trials to validate new cocoa, chocolate and raw material technologies following scientific rigor and Mars Global Chocolate Governance protocol.


• Execute quality plans throughout the pipeline process - from raw materials to shelf life of finished products.


• Execute sensory program for Global Sourcing Technology Team.
