Clinical Program Senior Advisor - Clinical Value Messaging at Cigna in Bloomfield, Connecticut

Job Description:

This position takes a leadership role within Cigna's Clinical Performance & Quality (CP&Q) organization to provide strategic direction on internal and external messaging approach development and execution related to current and future-state clinical/advocacy programs and solutions. The role is located on the Clinical Program Development & Health Equity (CPD&HE) team, whose services are in growing demand throughout the organization. We collaborate with a large network of clinical/advocacy experts across the Enterprise to present Cigna to the external marketplace as the singular leader in clinical excellence.

In recognition of the fact that compelling information about clinical/advocacy programs and solutions is instrumental in producing successful new business acquisition and retention/growth efforts, this role serves as a Subject Matter Expert/Initial Point of Contact working in partnership with our Proposal Management organization to address related questions in Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Information (RFI) questionnaires. In addition to working on active RFPs/RFIs, this role will also partner closely with Proposal Management to maintain, develop, and enhance content in a standing RFP content library. The successful candidate will be able to not only develop extensive knowledge across clinical and advocacy product solutions but will also develop the ability to provide guidance to Proposal Management writers on how to adjust response approach based on the differences across Cigna Sales buyer groups and verticals, as well as client objectives, industry and market specifics, and so on.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):


  • Develop and maintain substantial subject matter expertise across the product solution suite for Cigna Healthcare, including (but not limited to) clinical, advocacy/navigation, and network programs, including the nuances when they are offered to the various sectors and segments of Cigna clients.

  • Develop and maintain substantial subject matter expertise regarding relevant pilots, product enhancements, and other innovation work, and demonstrate skill messaging to the market appropriately and compellingly about such initiatives.

  • Network effectively to build strong relationships across a large, complex, rapidly changing organization.

  • Engage in process optimization work for the team related to request/project intake, prioritization, oversight, and completion procedures for the team to utilize, leveraging automation efficiencies where possible.

  • Facilitate regular training and other consultative support for Proposal Management on new and evolving clinical products.

  • Execute effectively in a high-pressure atmosphere comprised of high volumes, complex questions and issues, and shifting priorities, with an unwavering dedication to meeting deadlines. Process often requires the ability to provide additional last-minute, "just in time" engagement and guidance.

  • Assume partnership with Content Managers in RFP Strategy & Operations, helping them proactively create and maintain compelling RFP Library content - while helping ensure accuracy, best writing practices, and the reflection of current market message strategy/approach and positioning. Current RFP Library record totals are 900+.

  • Participate in creating and executing an internal messaging plan to help promote the value of the Clinical Program Development & Health Equity team.

  • Complete ad hoc, fast-turn requests related to enterprise Clinical Value Messaging needs, as well as required ongoing administrative tasks.

Education/Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree, or commensurate industry experience; with preference for experience within the health care industry. Advanced degree a plus.

  • Minimum of seven years' business marketing/communications experience, including proven excellence in research, writing, strategic planning, and editing under timeline pressure.

  • Knowledge of the healthcare industry, to include an understanding of managed care, value-based reimbursement models, care management, disease management and health advocacy.

  • Ability to produce a variety of externally appropriate responses from expert-provided information through proven expertise in medical writing, communication, and editorial skills - altering based on specific audience, questionnaire requirements (e.g., word/character count limitations).

  • Strong communication and presentation skills that reflect understanding of audience and scope; ability to influence at multiple organizational levels.

  • Strong motivator and team player, able to lead and delegate responsibilities as needed.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 109,500 - 182,500 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
