Acquired by AMETEK in 2010, Atlas Material Testing is a business unit within AMETEK's Measurement, Communication and Testing Division, which provides the design, integration and installation of critical communication systems, workflow, life-safety solutions and calibration instruments for temperature, pressure and process control.

Atlas is currently seeking an Optical Engineer to join our team in Mount Prospect who will be responsible for calibrating, maintaining, and inspecting instruments and optical components for conformance to established standards and specifications. The caniddate will also perform analysis and evaluation on materials, components, and systems, and periodically revise ISO 17025 calibration procedures. You will also be responsible for design and development of optical or opto-electrical systems for weathering and solar test instruments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Independent processing of optical and other questions in the context of product development and maintenance
• Ensuring reliable measurements for development, calibration and product maintenance
• Development and validation of measurement, testing and calibration methods

• Ensuring long-term compliance of measured variables with internal, national and international standards
• Ensuring regular and appropriate monitoring of measuring and calibration equipment
• Ensuring effective and appropriate incoming goods inspection of optical components

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Successfully completed university degree in physics or a comparable course of study in natural sciences or engineering
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of optics and optical measurement methods

• Knowledge in the following areas is an advantage: spectroscopy, radiometry, light sources, calibration, temperature and humidity measurement
• Initial experience in the field of project management and/or technical development in an industrial company is an advantage
• Knowledge of programming, data analysis and data visualization is an advantage
• Knowledge of DIN EN ISO 9001 and DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 is an advantage
