Job Description:

Reporting to the Vice President of Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability, the Corporate Environmental Health and Safety Manager acts as the functional environmental expert of the organization and is responsible for the management of corporate Environment Health programs, supporting the plant operations teams in improving and maintaining the site’s environmental compliance programs, and managing the Samuel energy reduction program.

Responsibilities


  • Functional leadership via hands-on guidance, supervision, assessment, and implementation of environmental strategies, programs, and systems across the Samuel enterprise.

  • Support the development of Environmental best-in-class programs, systems, and processes, including training and coaching to establish clear procedures on environmental measures and precautions in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations.  

  • Develops and maintains appropriate regulatory knowledge as it applies to operations. Provides expert guidance on the development of internal environmental audit protocols to ensure operations and all facilities are in compliance with regulatory requirements and company ESG goals.

  • Help with the direction of company-wide functional Environmental programs and act as an internal subject matter expert in those areas. Builds effective, functioning networks across the operations and facilities to provide support to ensure common understanding to drive specific issues.

  • Environmental Staff support training and capability building – Establish cross-functional networks that increase environmental awareness. Support organizational leaders in the development and deployment of environmental coaching and training tools. Regularly interact with organizational leaders and EHSS experts to drive towards environmental excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Champion Samuel’s energy reduction efforts by working closely with Samuel’s Health & Safety team, and other internal and external partners to ensure successful outcomes in GHG reduction.

  • Track environmental and sustainability metrics to identify trends that may trigger both preventative and promotional action.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) from an accredited institution in engineering, environmental management, chemistry, biology, or another related discipline.

  • Environmental health and safety Professional Certification (CEM, CSP, CHMM, etc.) strongly preferred.

  • Minimum ten years of experience working and learning in the discipline of environmental health and safety, preference in the metal industry.

  • Strong knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations and management systems, including air, water, and waste regulations and permitting. Knowledge of Canadian and Mexican regulations is a plus.

  • Lead and coordinate the alignment with industry best practices pertaining to the environment and sustainability throughout the region.

  • Monitor each site’s activities and implement actions to ensure compliance with all Samuel, federal, state, and local government regulations as related to environmental regulations and requirements.

  • Provide advice to develop environmental design solutions and ensure that environmental sustainability issues continue to be embedded as an integral part of processes and procedures.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide innovative environmental, sustainability, and energy efficiency solutions.

  • Develop and provide training for employees and contractors related to environmental programs.

  • Establishes departmental and project budgets for management

  • Identify opportunities and influence the implementation of methodologies to improve the environmental performance of Samuel’s business units.

  • Drive culture toward environmental stewardship and sustainable practices

  • Collaborate and provide subject matter expert knowledge for environmental management, water stewardship, Health & Safety, and sustainability

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required.

  • Influence improvement initiatives to ensure best-in-class performance

  • Must be able to travel throughout US, Canada, and Mexico.
