Speech-Language Pathologist - Adult Swallow at University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation in Madison, Wisconsin

Job Description:

Work Schedule: 100% FTE, 40 hours per week. Shifts scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM with some earlier start days (7:30am). Occasional legal holiday coverage required. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

We are seeking a Clinical Speech Language Pathologist to:


  • Work clinically and academically with a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians and speech language pathologists.

  • Evaluate and treat inpatient and ambulatory adult swallowing patients with special emphasis on the head and neck cancer population.

  • Perform diagnostics including: videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS), flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES), manometry, and clinical swallowing assessments.

  • Provide voice restoration services for patients with total laryngectomy, including tracheoesophageal puncture prosthesis management.

  • Develop new programs and outreach opportunities.

  • Contribute to learning experiences for residents, medical students, speech pathologist and clinical fellows. 

  • Be involved with clinical research and continuing education.

  • Work in a cutting-edge clinical environment at multiple locations throughout UW Health Systems.

Education:

Minimum - Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.

Work Experience:

Minimum – Experience in diagnostics including acoustics, aerodynamics, stroboscopy, high speed imaging, flexible endoscopy, videofluoroscopy, and/or high resolution manometry. Experience in providing voice, airway, resonance, and swallow therapy depending on area of specialty.

Preferred – Three (3) or more years of experience in subspecialized care within a medical setting (voice, airway, and resonance or swallow depending on area of specialty). Contribution to local or national professional boards and committees (such as ASHA or state-level speech and hearing associations). Record of presentation at national and regional professional conferences.

Licenses and Certifications:

Minimum –


  • WI Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) license.

  • ASHA certified (CCC-SLP) or eligible for certification.

  • Certification in Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automatic External Defibrillator or ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire.

Preferred – BCSS preferred for swallow subspecialty.
