Part of Product Solutions in the Individual Life Insurance organization, the State Filing Specialist is responsible for the end-to-end process of filing policy forms in compliance with regulatory, product and business requirements. Contracts is a team of approximately 10 individuals who primarily work with Product, Actuarial, Legal and other internal and external partners to ensure products are filed and approved with relevant jurisdictions, including the Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Commission (IIPRC, the Compact). Members of the team are primarily located in Newark, NJ and Hartford, CT.
 

The Opportunity
The State Filing Specialist will report to the Director of the Contract Filing team and is responsible for ensuring contract compliance for new development and in-force state-filed documents while supporting partners and coordinating contract development with cross functional project leads. This includes filing and negotiating approval of contracts, riders, endorsements, amendments and other state regulated forms with state insurance departments, defining requirements and providing oversite and quality checks of other contract specialists’ work.


  • Must be comfortable working in an agile environment.


  • Act as technical expert and consultant to internal and external partners on complex filing issues.


  • Ability to review state-specific requirements and perform technical analysis to determine relevant variations applicable to new policy forms.


  • Act as consultant to various internal and external departments and respond to legal and or regulatory issues.


  • Research insurance regulation and technical issues related to product development to ensure document compliance.


  • May oversee administrative functions related to client-facing publishing and new business issuance.


  • Prepare contractual documents for state insurance departments, as required for new products and/or changes for in-force business, which includes reviewing filings prepared by other Contracts associates and documentation of previous filings of a similar nature.


  • Coordinate with internal partners to develop technical responses to state department inquiries and may review or provide technical guidance/training to other Contracts associates.


  • Responsibilities may include workflow coordination, responding to regulator questions, training new associates and special projects.


  • Maintain standards of documentation and communication to internal partners.


Your Expertise
What you’ll need to succeed:


  • Product and Compliance knowledge of life insurance and/or annuity business.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.


  • Strong communication and presentation skills.


  • Exceptional collaboration skills and ability to partner with a wide variety of other functions and levels, including Product, Service, IT, Control and Actuarial functions.


  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills; ability to understand, explain and write complex technical material.


  • Must have solid organizational skills with the ability to develop and execute plans.


  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage several dissimilar deliverables.


  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


  • Ability to remain productive in a remote work environment.


  • Proficient in Microsoft applications and System for Electronic Forms Filing (SERFF).


Additional consideration for candidates that have the following:


  • Relevant contract drafting and/or filing experience.


  • Three years related experience in Individual Life or Annuity product filing and implementation.

The salary range for this role is from $86,300.00 to $128,400.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills. Roles may also be eligible for additional compensation and/or benefits. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance. In addition, employees are eligible for standard benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental and retirement.
