Clinical Informatics Analyst

The Clinical Informatics Analyst leads and participates in the planning, development, implementation, training, evaluation of use, and optimization of clinical information systems. Builds, tests, and implements computer applications and other systems that support the organizations business and clinical initiatives. Serves as the internal expert for the EHR and is responsible for assisting in overall implementation and long-term maintenance and optimization activities. Collaborates closely with and communicates between information systems and clinical staff and leaders to align EHR system features and functionality with daily workflows and long-term strategic objectives of our hospitals.

Job Responsibilities/Duties


  • Provides critical analysis and evaluation of health IT and recommends revision of clinical systems, processes, and workflow to define technology needs and ensure achievement of positive patient outcomes. Combines knowledge of patient care, informatics concepts, and change management to effectively address the information and knowledge needs of patients. Demonstrates strong problem solving, creativity and critical thinking skills to accomplish objectives.
  • Supports nursing leadership to implement infrastructure including policies and procedures that support the nursing community. Collaborates with leadership in project/program planning and development that supports department and organizational initiatives. Participates as a project leader and management support, focusing on initiatives supporting nursing and/or clinical care services. Actively participates in committees.
  • Monitors the environment, technology, and infrastructure to support the prevention of medical errors and adverse events. Promotes standardization within the organization to comply with healthcare industry requirements and standards. Facilitates decision making and adoption based on industry best practices. Ensures new processes adhere to regulatory requirements and provide thorough data capture for prompt, smooth, and effective processing.
  • Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with administration, clinical departments and associates, information services, and other disciplines to evaluate the effectiveness of technologies and enhance workflow methodology and tools that impact clinical users.
  • Acts as a change agent in the identification, development, planning, implementation of informatics strategies to support and promote quality patient care. Promotes the use of health IT to improve patient safety by designing, developing, implementing, and educating on decision support tools.
  • Continually assesses the education needs of staff, patients, and families. Plans and contributes to formal and informal education for staff, patients and families. Ensures that training meets the needs of the end users as demonstrated by the end user's ability to proficiently use clinical systems.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: None.

Minimum Experience: Five (5) years' experience in clinical system implementations (EMR, Ancillary, Reporting Analytics, Clinical Quality, etc.) required. Working knowledge of clinical operations in an acute care setting. Knowledge of change management, IT hardware, and project management. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and ARRA Meaningful Use requirements. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to multitask and maintain a work pace appropriate to workload. Ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment. Provides after hour and weekend support as needed. Knowledge of Allscripts EMR preferred.

Req. Certification/Licensure: Active or Inactive Clinical License (LVN or RN) required. Registered Nurse preferred.
