Special Orders Purchaser

 

Role Description:

This position is directly responsible for coordinating the purchase of stock or special-order inventory items, such as hardware, for the location, in order to satisfy customer project needs and order requests.    

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Be committed to customer service above all else – lead by example and set a high standard of service for internal and external customers at all times; display a high level of professionalism, respect, and courtesy.


• Coordinate purchases of stock items and/or special-order items by creating purchase orders, checking vendor deliveries or paperwork, and administrating stock receipts in the computer system. 


• Communicate with vendors about product info, ordering time frame, and availability – and provide detailed information and follow-up with customers (internal and external)


• Maintain proper flow of product information and paperwork to adhere to company policies for ordering, receiving, and follow-up with appropriate sales personnel


• Ensure receiving paperwork is complete and accurate (quantities and pricing) before submitting to corporate personnel for payment


• Maintain extensive product knowledge for variety of building materials available to location and customers


• Perform other tasks as assigned by management

Skills Needed:

• High school diploma or GED, and extensive lumber and building material product experience.


• Ability to read and write in English, needs good communication skills and follow-up.


• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of customers and the general public.


• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and area.


• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.


• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


• Possess high organizational skills and ability to effectively maintain such skills in a frenzied environment


• Good customer service skills, time management skills
