The Failure Analysis Engineering Lead provides an opportunity to lead a Failure Analysis Center of Excellence for Jabil Vancouver. This position will oversee various platforms and infrastructure FA work from a specialized production environment and from worldwide design operations. In partnership with multiple teams such as Electrical, Mechanical, Optical, and Quality Engineering, the candidate will develop, implement, and execute an FA strategy for multiple Jabil programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Facilitate the daily operations and create an inspiring workplace with an open communication culture

· Facilitate failure analysis on various hardware fails, manufacturing fails, fails in Reliability tests, drive Root Cause and Corrective action, and make necessary recommendations.

· Establish a culture of applying Physics of Failure to debug and better understand root cause issues.

· Drive fault isolation using diagnosis tools and setting up Design of Experiments.

· Direct, guide and define FA steps and processes and influence/assist ODM/vendor FAs as needed.

· Review and document thorough FA findings and generate comprehensive FA reports.

· Oversee all aspects of Lab maintenance, including scheduled preventive maintenance, and ensure asset tracking of equipment.

· Oversee laboratory safety and ensure that the laboratory remains in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.

· Determine conditions under which tests are to be conducted and sequences and phases of test operations.

· Direct and exercise control over operational, functional, and performance phases of tests to meet deadlines and milestones.

· Perform complex assignments of the engineering test function for standard and/or custom devices.

· Analyze and interpret test data and prepares technical reports for use by test engineering, management, and customers.

· Ensure lab users are trained on the correct use of the lab equipment, in addition to mentoring.

· Ensure equipment maintenance and calibration are maintained to keep a high level of system readiness.

· Facilitate effective communication across internal departments by analysis and reporting data.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

· Knowledge of schematics, circuit design, and experience with electrical test equipment such as:

o Network Analyzers

o Oscilloscope

o TDR

o Curve Tracing

· Experience in RCA for thermal induced failures in PCBAs and electrical components

· Perform material characterization, physical failure analysis, dye and pry, etc.

· Ownership of FA Lab equipment and expert level utilizing

o Scanning Electron Microscope

o 3D X-ray

o Elemental Analyzer

o Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis systems

o Spectroscopy

o Coordinated Measuring Machines

o 3D Surface Profiler

o Thermal Warpage

o Optical imaging microscopes

o Polishing wheels, and chemical wet lab

· Responsible for FA Lab equipment: purchase, inventory control, tracking, labeling, calibration, and repairs

· Responsible for FA Lab supplies and consumables: purchase, maintain, forecast, and budget

· Experience with IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001

· Act as the principal lead for the imaging section of the laboratory

· Train engineers and technicians in all lab equipment use and maintenance

· Train engineers and technicians in cross-section analysis techniques

Technical Qualifications

· 8+ years of Lab experience

· 3+ years supervisory experience in industry lab management

· Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field

· Preferred - PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics or a related field

· Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal safety regulations and how to apply them in a laboratory setting

· Excellent communication skills as well as the ability to work independently

· Ability to practice a high level of confidentiality

The pay range for this role is $91,756 - $174,261. Job-related, non-discriminatory factors used to determine the actual offered rate include qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity.

As part of the total rewards package, this position is eligible for a short-term incentive based on performance. In addition, Jabil offers benefits to enhance your health, wealth, and resilient self.
