Role Summary:



This role will report to the Procurement Supervisor and will have responsibility of managing the buying process for cast and forged components. Apply sourcing policy, interface between supplier and entity with respect to specifications and budgets. Position require understanding of concepts, methods and procedures to enable sourcing execution.



Responsibilities:




  • As a Senior Buyer, you are responsible for managing casting, machining, and forging suppliers.


  • Ensure category is meeting business needs with its suppliers and conducting business reviews with suppliers to communicate the needs and their performance.


  • Manage the request for quotations and supplier selection in consistency with strategy


  • Communicate Supplier strategy internally.


  • Executes purchase orders in SAP and maintains accurate and timely material status. 


  • Works together with the organization’s planning and project management departments to develop best practices to obtain desired inventory levels at the optimum cost to the organization.  


  • Negotiates best price with the considerations of quality, reliability of source and urgency of need for all assigned commodities.  


  • Recommends substitutes for purposes of standardization, or cost savings. 


  • Participates in establishing purchased standard and planned costs.   


  • Maintains knowledge of supplier quality and delivery performance. Works with supplier to expediting parts for the organization’s requirements.







 




  • Works with the Quality Department to improve suppliers’ quality based on their performance. Resolves non-conforming material requirements with the supplier in a timely manner. 


  • Reviews incoming requisitions for specification completeness. 


  • Negotiates warranty claims against vendors, cancellation charges, and restocking charges. 


  • Consults with supervisor as required assuring our contractual position is protected. 


  • Complies with established policies, procedures, and practices. Actively supports, participates in, and maintains the integrity and on-going function of the company and facility's safety program; ensuring a safe/healthy work environment. 


  • Exercises professionalism, objectivity, and a high standard of personal ethics at all times in dealing with day-to-day activities and vendors. 


  • Other duties as assigned.



  



Required Qualifications:




  • Thorough knowledge of foundry processes, including but not limited to, Machining, Pouring of Castings, and Open/Closed Die Forging.  Candidate will need to have experience managing vendors in this space as well as having demonstrated buying these types of components.


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, or relevant experience combined with High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution


  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a sourcing, procurement, or buying of castings and forgings.


  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.


  • Strong administrative and organizational skills including telephone communication and active listening.


  • Ability to respond to unplanned situations and circumstances.


  • Must be able to work in a cross-functional team and demonstrate consistent forward progress.


  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word applications.


  • SAP advanced purchasing knowledge preferred.
