Position Details

The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will assist the Operations team to identify continual improvement and cost saving initiatives, support process engineering with line-based time studies, and support the Quality department as we prepare to launch a new program this summer.  As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you will be assisting in the implementation and improvement of assigned equipment and production lines.  The Manufacturing Engineer Intern will work closely with Operations, Quality and Engineering department heads and will be working on exciting projects throughout the internship. Including Pre-production planning and implementation of new automotive products.

Exciting functions that you will learn and execute during your internship:

• Assist in planning and implementing new plant equipment; This equipment is a combination of in-house designs as well as equipment contracted from outside vendors


• Learn and follow the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process, APQP ensures projects stay on time and all aspects are considered


• Look for and implement continual improvement programs and ideas


• Work with the Process Engineering team to use collected downtime and equipment failure data to identify and eliminate sources of poor equipment efficiency


• Assist operations to resolve downtime issues within the facility


• Revise documents and drawings as needed to keep current in the Quality Management System


• Assist in training of production employee’s


• Work with Prototype technicians and Toolmakers to identify tooling issues and run trials for development


• Create/edit new or existing work instructions


• Learn and use measurement systems including CMM, OGP and Profile tracing


• Work with and monitor Laser measurement systems such as the IPG Photonics LDD system

What we are looking for:

• In process of earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering


• Some experience with CAD, preferably SolidWorks


• Experience with mechatronics, lasers or robotics is desirable, but not required
