The Global Engineering Manager– Controls (hereafter ‘Manager, Controls’) will lead a group of Software (Firmware) and Hardware engineers to develop Controls solutions, and to lend technical support/guide various engineering/manufacturing groups within BAC. This includes responsibility for Controls features and cost, schedule management of projects assigned within group, and relationship management with other leaders around the business. This individual will ensure all Controls on BAC products meet or exceed performance and regulatory standards (both internal and external). Interaction will be from a technical perspective to the leadership counterparts in engineering management, product management, manufacturing, supply chain, and other functions, as needed. This position is a hands-on engineering management role that can perform a wide variety of tasks with minimal supervision, using technical and administrative skills. Work shall be done independently and as part of project teams.

NATURE & SCOPE
The Manager, Controls reports to the Global EngineeringDirector – Core Technology & Support Systems. S/he will interact with other managers in the U.S. and around the world. The Manager, Controls will lead efforts in designing and optimizing controls for cooling products and in meeting regulatory compliance. Direct reports include engineers.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Leading
Lead the Controls team for the on-time/on-scope/on-budget/ high quality completion of development projects, sustaining activities, and all items related to the Controls category, that improve the performance of BAC products
Instill a culture of meeting-commitments, fun, curiosity, and process-improvement
Work closely with Engineering and Marketing Platform Managers to ensure Controls projects support the multi-year product roadmaps
Drive urgency in project schedules and accountability for establishing and achieving key project performance metrics that meet the organization’s needs
Provide technical expertise to the organization—either by self, leveraging team, or leveraging outside experts—in industry best practices for control algorithm development / testing
Define overall software and controls development processes, design strategies, common architectures, and reusability across multiple products/projects
Develop strategy, policies, and guidance to the global organization on how the business can/should provide regional support
Support and actively participate in the development of direct reports through training, mentoring, and succession development. May recommend direct reports for promotion within the engineering hierarchy.
Perform administrative duties, including approval of expense reports and IT requests, performance appraisals for employees under direct supervision
Create, maintain and improve the BAC Controls Standards
Serve as scrum/agile Product Owner on development projects

Follow industry best practice norms to ensure robust software design
Use modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Simscape, and Stateflow
Collaborate with Hardware and Firmware Engineers to optimize and implement next-generation control algorithms
Peer review software and controls designs/source code
Provide strong technical design guidance related to test script development and execution design, and share best practices to the organization
Work independently to design, model, simulate and test control algorithms and applications

Design and qualify new solutions to applicable regulatory standards such as UL and CE
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Travel occasionally to Global BAC Design Centers (Shanghai, Jessup, Heist), and occasionally as needed to manufacturing facilities, conferences, industry councils, etc; combined up to 20% including internationally
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working hours are the standard BAC 40 hours per week (8:30am-5:00pm with flexible start/finish times allowed)
Travel, both domestic and international, can be up to 35% of the time
Occasional evening/weekend hours are required, although can often be done from home with the use of a portable computer.
Primarily Sedentary Activity in the office will be experienced; however periodic travel to R&D Lab and BAC manufacturing facilities with assembly (medium work) is required.
Must have close visual acuity to work with computer systems and virtual models
Will typically be subjected to only indoor conditions; however on occasional trips to BAC Lab or manufacturing facilities, the worker may experience heat, cold, humidity, and noise.
