The Controls-Automation Specialist will take a role in the support, development, and maintenance of PLCs that operate within North America for the Terminals business unit. Work includes developing applications for Terminals measurement and control center automation.
The Controls-Automation Specialist will participate in or be responsible for implementing PLC and SCADA system projects related to new or modified facilities. This work may include designing and testing of Allen Bradley PLC's, application configuration, application design and development, SQL database support, SCADA System database support, graphics development, and other activities by Kinder Morgan SCADA policies, procedures, and standards.
The Controls-Automation Specialist will also perform support with regard to PLC logic and programming for field devices, along with providing field support and supervision of contractors or union employees in the field.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Work as part of a group to provide SCADA system administration, management, and support functions where support includes day-to-day activities required to support the departments that use the SCADA System.
Ensure that KM SCADA system procedures and standards are met.
Participate in or be directly responsible for analyzing, designing, and implementing Allen Bradley PLC's, SCADA-related applications, SQL databases, TopTech TMS5 & up reports while following existing standards.
Participate in or be directly responsible for working with business groups or other IT staff to provide and/ or develop data interfaces between business and SCADA applications.
Coordinate with Engineering, Control Center, and Operations personnel to ensure that application, graphic, and report design meet customer requirements.
Provide PLC, SCADA system hardware, and software support in conjunction with appropriate IT personnel as needed.
Participate with IT Infrastructure personnel to review system maintenance and diagnose problems related to IT Standard operating systems and databases.
Participate with IT Telecommunications personnel to review network design, maintenance issues, monitoring, etc.
Develop documentation related to the design and the use of applications, graphics, procedures, etc.
Position Requirements
Minimum requirements: Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
Experience / specific knowledge:
A minimum of 5 years of work experience with Allen Bradley Controllogix PLC's, Automation or real-time systems support
Experience in the AVEVA System platform
2 or more years direct work experience with DeviceNet, Modbus RTU-TCP, GE or Emerson PLCs, TCP/IP and DH+.
Ability to understand and apply Object Oriented methodologies.
A basic understanding of PID loops.
Experience with writing scripts in Wonderware Archestra and InTouch
Experience with Archestra OMI
Strong initiative with a strong desire to learn.
Familiarity with IT, SCADA, and network architectural standards
Ability to understand and apply fundamental programming principles in the development of modular, reusable, and scalable applications.
Advanced use of Microsoft Office applications, including MS-Excel, MS-Word & MS-Teams
Proficient program development using .NET 4.0+, C#, VB and SQL

Physical demands:
Majority of time will be spent at a workstation typing and using a mouse. (Significant repetitive motion with fingers)
Occasional moderate lifting of workstations or monitors
Occasional need to go into the field of an operating petro-chemical terminal to diagnose and troubleshoot field issues with contractors or union instrumentation teams.
Working conditions:
Standard office environment with options for flexible hours and telecommuting
At times during projects and startups extra hours will be required to ensure work is completed in a timely manner
Shared after-hours callout (7x 24) as part of a group is required
Occasional travel may be required
Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities: Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
SCADA or Automation related experience in liquid terminals Industries
Working knowledge of PLC logic control and function
Networking experience within a Telecom department or similar
Other responsibilities: Each SCADA group may have other systems and responsibilities based on personnel and geography. This may include:
Support and configuration of measurement applications collecting flow computer information
Support and configuration of security card systems
General IT support for applications, servers, desktop, printers, etc.
