In this exciting role as a Sr. Material Planner, you will have responsibility for production planning, evaluating, selecting, and negotiating high-quality, reliable, suppliers for raw materials and for ensuring the cost-effective acquisition of quality materials. As an important member of the Connecticut Scheduling Hub in our Mystic, CT manufacturing facility, you will lead and work collaborative environment with other business functions.

The Restorative Therapies Group develops life-restoring therapies and healthcare solutions that span the care continuum; integrating technologies and applying clinical and economic evidence to increase patient access, improve the efficiency of procedures and deliver successful patient outcomes.

Specialty Therapies offers a broad portfolio that addresses urologic and gastrointestinal disorders, conditions of the ear, nose, and throat, as well as electrosurgical products for soft tissue dissection and hemostatic sealing of soft tissue and bone.

A Day in the Life

As the Sr. Material Planner you will:


  • Source, purchase, plan, and schedule the movement of raw materials, packaging materials, parts, components, services, supplies, finished goods, and related materials through the production and inventory process.
  • Meet inventory goals while supporting material requirements for Production.
  • Place timely purchase orders expedite material and resolve payment issues with suppliers.
  • Manage lead time reduction.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional projects involving Supply Chain, Sector and/or Corporate initiatives that ensure business objectives are met. Influence cost reductions through Kaizen/RIE event facilitation and using Lean principles. Utilize Lean principles to promote a continuous improvement culture.
  • Identify raw materials, components, and related requirements from engineering and production specifications and schedules.
  • In front-end procurement mode, analyze data and determine factors that affect prices and determine the lowest cost consistent with quality, reliability, and ability to meet required schedules.
  • Coordinate and follow up with production, warehouse, and engineering personnel to ensure appropriate procurement, scheduling, and movement of materials and services.
  • Compile information to keep informed on price trends and manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor the performance of suppliers and collaborate on-demand analysis planning.
  • Review and delegate work to materials handlers while consulting with line leaders.

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 4 years of supply chain experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years supply chain experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience employing an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system in supply chain activities and employing materials and inventory management using Material Resource Planning (MRP).
  • Experience with purchasing, forecasting, and supplier management
  • Experience managing projects and working in teams
  • Experience with computer applications including Microsoft Office
  • APICS CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management)
  • Project Management Professional Certification
  • Six Sigma, Lean, and DMAIC skills and experience
  • Experience in the medical device industry is desired
  • Experience with SAP
  • Familiar with working in an ISO 13485 and FDA-regulated environment.
  • Experience working in a clean room environment.
  • Technically competent and able to communicate directions clearly in verbal, written, and graphical formats to managers, engineers and technicians.
