Responsibilities

•Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Tyler Union Safety Management Program. Advise management of any deviations from this program.
•Fit and align fabricated parts to be welded or assembled.
•Layout and fabricate metal structural parts such as plates, bulkheads, and frames.
•Mark curves, lines, holes, dimensions, and welding symbols onto workpieces, using scribes, soapstones, punches, and hand drills.
•Compute layout dimensions, and determine and mark reference points on metal stock or workpieces for further processing, such as welding and assembly.
•Locate center lines and verify template positions, using measuring instruments such as gauge blocks, height gauges, and dial indicators.
•Lift and position workpieces in relation to surface plates, manually or with hoists, and using parallel blocks and angle plates.
•Plan locations and sequences of cutting, drilling, bending, rolling, punching, and welding operations, using compasses, protractors, dividers, and rulers.
•Inspect machined parts to verify conformance to specifications.



Qualifications

•Associates degree in a technical field or training in a vocational school preferred.
•Three to five years of related on-the-job experience required.
•Knowledge required to perform this job includes mathematics; mechanical; building and construction; production and processing; and design.
•Skills required to perform this job include active listening; critical thinking; complex problem solving; monitoring; and operation monitoring.
•Abilities required to perform this job include near vision; arm-hand steadiness; visualization; problem sensitivity; information ordering; manual dexterity; selective attention; control precision; deductive reasoning; multi-limb coordination; oral comprehension; oral expression; auditory attention; far vision; and finger dexterity.
•Work activities required to perform this job include inspecting equipment, structures, and material; handling and moving objects; getting information; controlling machines and processes; making decisions and solving problems; monitoring processes, materials, and surroundings; identifying objects, actions and events; communicating with supervisors and peers; processing information; evaluating information to determine compliance with standards; updating and using relevant knowledge; drafting, laying out, and specifying technical devices, parts, and equipment; operating vehicles, mechanized devices, or equipment; analyzing data or information; organizing, planning, and prioritizing work; thinking creatively; and repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment.
•Physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, standing, stooping, and handling tools and materials.
•Must wear common protective or safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats.
