GBH News is transforming into one cohesive, audience-focused, multiplatform news organization that tells the most interesting and distinctive local stories of the day which are infused and informed by the diverse communities we serve. We are among the fastest-growing local news providers in Greater Boston and draw on the talent of a multiplatform newsroom that includes GBH 89.7, Boston’s Local NPR; television; and digital reporting. Our goal -- through in-depth, high-quality journalism -- is to inform, educate and enlighten our audience and build a collaborative newsroom culture.
JOB OVERVIEW
GBH News is currently seeking an Associate Producer. In this position, you will have the opportunity to be an integral part of the production of the program. We’re looking for someone that has worked on a television program and knows their way around television production from start to finish. If you have worked on a live television broadcast program that is a plus. You’ll research topics and stories that impact communities of color and have the opportunity to book/find potential guests and experts from the Greater Boston area and beyond who can bring those topics and stories to a weekly live television program that is also streamed live on the web.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Editorial/Research
Research stories and topics that can be used for potential upcoming shows; help identify and secure potential guests; Gather research for the host in advance to prepare for the program
Production
Search, find, and log videos or stills that could enhance the weekly program topic; prepare lower-third credits
Social Media/Digital
Post interesting elements onto the show’s social media, assist with digital live streaming as well as upload the show onto the show's Facebook page and website.
Craft service
Manage and coordinate craft service for weekly guests, including logistics, stocking u,p and ordering supplies
General Administrative
Schedule and manage makeup for talent and guests;
Coordination of talent and guests; Input show data into PIM system
SKILL SET
Ability to write, copy-edit and proofread work for spelling and grammar.
Possess an understanding of topics and what’s going on in the news.
Must be comfortable working autonomously for periods of time and/or with a group.
Familiar with the production process of producing a show for air, logging tapes, and possessing a keen eye for interesting videos and shots to incorporate into the program. Able to work with and communicate with the production team and create and organize shoots.
Social media/digital savvy.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communication/media-related or equivalent work experience required
3-4 years of relevant experience. At least one year working on a commercial/public television broadcast television program, preferably live television
Editorial experience; comfortable and curious about looking for stories and topics related to communities of color
Experience going out with a crew, gathering b-roll, and possibly doing interviews.
Proven experience in problem-solving and critical thinking practices within a culturally diverse working environment.
Experience with broadcast systems such as INews
