Independence is looking for an experienced and analytically minded individual to support our behavioral health initiatives to improve our members’ well-being.  This Senior Research Analyst position will report to the Manager, Reporting and Analytics, within the Informatics Department, and will support the organization’s broad strategy to achieve whole-person health and meeting the growing need for behavioral health services.  This role will collaborate with behavioral health clinicians, business partners, and technical teams to help create robust analytics and reporting around mental health and substance use disorders impacting our members.

Informatics is hiring a Senior Research Analyst – Behavioral Health with the following primary responsibilities:


  • Develop and apply subject matter expertise on claims, opportunities, and policies related to behavioral health

  • Provide data analytics support and research related to potential changes in medical and behavioral health policies, claims payments, benefits, etc. as requested by our internal stakeholders

  • Develop presentations and reports using clinical, demographic, or administrative data in support of Informatics’ analytical projects

  • Identify and execute on opportunities for reporting and analytics efficiencies

  • Interpret, summarize, and present analytic results in a clear, concise manner for both technical and non-technical audiences, to help drive effective decision-making processes

  • Act as a subject matter expert for the organization in behavioral health data, metrics, and analytics

  • Provide ad hoc reporting and analytical findings and results as requested by internal stakeholders.

Qualifications:


  • Ideally, advanced degree in business, health care, public health, epidemiology, statistics, social sciences, or related quantitative area or bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience in an analytical environment or equivalent preferred

  • Background in healthcare data strongly preferred (e.g., medical claims, authorizations)

  • Bonus if have experience in performing behavioral health analytics and reporting or clinical background in behavioral health

  • Demonstrated advanced SQL / R programming skills with proven experience in data extraction, scrubbing and transformation, with the ability to perform QA and reasonableness checks

  • Strong data storytelling and visualization skills; working knowledge of visualization tools, a plus (e.g., Tableau)

  • Intermediate/advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, visually appealing graphs/charts, complex formulas, etc.)

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills

  • Self-starter who is naturally intellectually curious with strong analytical, project management and problem-solving skills

Hybrid of Choice:

Independence has implemented a “Hybrid of Choice” model which provides our associates with the flexibility to choose whether to work remotely, work in the office every day, or work in the office on certain days at their discretion. However, management may require our associates to work from Independence’s physical office locations on certain occasions. This role is designated as a role that fits into the “Hybrid of Choice” model. While associates may work remotely, the work must be performed in the Tri-State Area of Delaware, New Jersey or Pennsylvania.
