  • BS in Materials Science, Plastics/Polymer Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least 5 years of plastics injection molding or investment casting industry or related industry experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in injection molding.
  • Knowledge of wax or plastic materials, compounding, and additives.
  • Demonstrates considerable ingenuity and creativity while recognizing prudent risk.
  • Possesses exceptional written, oral communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrates leadership traits that positively represent Howmet and the ability to create trustworthy relationships and energize teams.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed (50-75%)
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States, verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire, visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. "Green Card Holder"), Political Asylee, or Refugee

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Materials Science, Plastics/Polymer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10 years of investment casting industry experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in injection molding.
  • Recognized plastics industry Master Molder or similar certification.
  • Tool-making or tool design experience, especially for molding.
  • Assembly and automation experience.
  • Six sigma green belt and/or black belt preferred (commitment to achieve green belt status within 24 months required).
  • Working knowledge of statistical analysis and SPC

The Howmet Engines Business Unit Wax Process Owner may be located at any of the US Howmet Engines Business Unit facilities. Using a disciplined process management approach, this position will team with Howmet Engines' manufacturing operations in implementing best practices in wax formulations, wax injection, and wax assembly processes.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Ensure wax processes (supply, injection, assembly, inspection) are performed in compliance with the methods, materials, and equipment specified in the Business Unit Manuals and associated Manufacturing Self Assessment Tools (MSATs).
  • Own responsibility for the revisions and upkeep of the Business Unit Wax Manuals to drive best practices.
  • Work with wax suppliers to ensure stable and consistent supply to casting facilities.
  • Perform periodic internal audits and external audits related to manufacturing, use, and inspection of investment casting wax materials and processes. This includes locations within the business unit global manufacturing facilities and external suppliers.
  • Work effectively as part of a team to develop and productionize new technologies, materials, and suppliers for cost savings, process improvements, and quality improvements relative to wax and related equipment used within the company.
  • Evaluate and document process changes, obtaining customer or engineering approval when required.
  • Perform root cause investigations on deviations from critical process specifications and provide technical support to Plant Engineering grounded in six sigma methodology to resolve wax injection and assembly related issues.
  • Act as a conduit between the Research Center and manufacturing facilities to ensure that technology needs are communicated and new technology is rapidly tested and implemented.
