Position Overview

This position is responsible managing and processing the regional payroll functions. Works closely with leadership to support business needs. Maintains HRIS payroll functions, reporting, compliance, fringes, etc.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • Oversee weekly payroll processing for both confidential and non-confidential regional payrolls

  • Strict adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley

  • Address payroll related concerns and communications

  • Processes yearly merit increases and annual incentive program payments

  • Coordinate garnishment processing with corporate

  • Update HRIS with all pay rate and union fringe adjustments, coordination with collective bargaining agreements

  • Process and report union fringe payments with various localities; maintenance of escrow accounts

  • Track and monitor apprentice hours and administer changes

  • Manage MDOT certified payroll processing; ensure accuracy of prevailing wage

  • Maintain vacation tracker

  • Review and process employee reimbursements; index accordingly in OnBase

Other Responsibilities


  • Maintain payroll portal

  • Support and train support staff on payroll functions

  • Audit/process payroll changes such as direct deposits, W4, etc.

  • Coordinate with finance on GL accounts, audits, census, etc.

  • Coordinate with HR on employment changes, hires and terminations

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge and experience in the following.


  • Knowledge of Viewpoint preferred

  • Experience with MDOT LCP Tracker preferred

  • Intermediate experience with SQL and/or excel queries

  • Proficient in mathematical skills

  • Work will be performed in an office setting (90%) and outside of the office (10%). Physical requirements include sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, twisting.

Work Environment

  • This position is a self-led position in which the individual will interact with customers, scales, sales, and other clerical positions in an office environment. Customer visits and working outside of the office will be required at times.
