Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC) Schools is comprised of a non-profit network of public charter schools designed to significantly increase high school graduation rates, college entrance, and college graduation rates for underserved students in North-East Los Angeles, and the North-East San Fernando Valley.

The Team Member we are searching for

The ideal English Language Development (ELD) Teacher believes in and is passionate about the mission and commitments of PUC Schools and exhibits this through their leadership, reflection, execution of school culture, and collaboration to ensure student success.

What you will need to accomplish:


  • Support with integrated ELD (iELD) and ELPAC based on site needs

  • Focus on supporting the implementation of iELD across contents (this includes Professional Development and being brought into coaching conversations as a collaborator)

  • Assist in the implementation of the ELD program and provide support to teachers as they implement a balanced program designed to meet the needs of all English Learners

  • Collaborate with the Inclusion Specialist and ELPAC administration

  • Support and coordinate ELAC meetings and reclassification process

  • Work in a collaborative manner with colleagues to support the appropriate use of specially designed academic learning in English (SDAIE) strategies in general education classes

  • Support teachers with Integrated ELD instruction through classroom observations, coaching conversations, and planning and facilitating professional development

  • Work with site administrators to ensure teaching methods are directed towards meeting and surpassing the standards

  • Meet weekly with administration during a planning period to discuss DELD updates and plan for literacy needs, coaching, and professional development

  • Design and instruct students using effective research based instructional practices that address the cultural context of English learners and in alignment with the standards for English Language Development (ELD)

  • Track the success of EL Students

  • Provide Literacy Intervention support to students

  • Differentiate lesson plans to engage and challenge students

  • Build authentic relationships with students by serving as a mentor; consistently reinforce the belief that all students have the capacity to be successful through college

  • Communicate with parents to ensure they are aware of reclassification requirements and ELPAC testing information

  • Other duties as assigned by Site Principal

What do we require from you?

Minimum Qualifications

Education:


  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university required

  • Masters degree in subject matter field or education strongly preferred

  • Possess a current California teaching credential (Clear or Preliminary) in the appropriate field/subject required

  • Possession of either Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) certificate; Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate; embedded EL Authorizations: ELA1 required

Experience:


  • Solid knowledge of the subject matter, including California State Standards and subject-specific frameworks and assessments

  • Knowledge of teaching methods and strategies which are highly effective for English learners, Common Core Standards, ELD standards as well as secondary curriculum and materials

  • You are a mission-driven individual who has experience working with diverse student populations, including English language learners and students with disabilities

Skills and Abilities


  • Knowledge of diversity in society, including diverse abilities, culture, language, ethnicity, and gender orientation

  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Alignment with core characteristics required of every PUC employee: pursuit of excellence, innovation, community, tenacity, and authenticity

  • Must be flexible and collaborative

  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

  • Strong work ethic, accountability, and ownership of work

  • Regular attendance, dependability and, punctuality in conformance with the standards are essential to the successful performance of this position

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to kneel, climb and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below. Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc.
