Summary:

We are in search of a Registered Nurse for the PICU at Main Campus. Someone who excels in fast-paced learning with dynamic flexibility in a critical care setting. This position encompasses direct nursing care to critically ill patients, while ensuring safety and comfort, within our family centered care model.

Our PICU is divided into 4 cohorts for better patient outcomes.
The 4 cohorts are:
• 9 LT: Surgical and Neuro-surgical ICU that encompasses post liver & kidney transplants, trauma patients, seizure disorder patients, and post-operative patients
• 10 LT: MICU focusing on pulmonary/pulmonary hypertension patients, bone marrow transplant/hematology/oncology patients
• 11 LT: MICU that encompasses a mix of medical-surgical patients.
• 12 LT: Transitional ICU is a unique cohort that focuses on our chronic, technology dependent patients who need intense education with the patient and family before discharging home.

As a PICU nurse, you will work with patients in each cohort.

Qualifications:
Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children's, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.

• Bachelor's degree in nursing or an associate's degree, technical diploma, or current enrollment in a nursing bridge program is required +signed agreement
• Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact and BLS American Heart Association certification are required
• One (1) year of professional nursing experience
• The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate good time and resource management skills
• Demonstrate flexibility
• Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
• Operate unit specific equipment
• Able to work nights
• Knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, PALS, ACLS and interdisciplinary collaboration

Responsibilities:
• Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental ( age - appropriate), culture, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner.
• Analyzes situations, anticipates potential problem, and detects changes in patient status
• Re-prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes to the patient's condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record.
• Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences and documents in the medical record
• Assists patients/family in implementing their role in the plan of care as appropriate
• Assess patient family learning needs capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn prior to teaching.
• Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients/families, visitors, peers, and other health care team members.
• Administers and documents medications and treatments in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performance.
• Participate in unit performance improvement initiatives.
