Nemours is seeking a Pediatric Cochlear Implant Audiologist (FULL-TIME), to join our Audiology team at Nemours Children's Health in Orlando, Florida.

Located in Orlando, Fla., Nemours Children's Hospital is the newest addition to the Nemours integrated healthcare system. Our 130-bed pediatric hospital also features the area's only 24-hour Emergency Department designed just for kids as well as outpatient pediatric clinics including several specialties previously unavailable in the region. In keeping with our goal of bringing Nemours care into the communities we serve, we also provide specialty outpatient care in several clinics located throughout the region.

Seeking a bilingual CI dedicated audiologist to lead a program in collaboration with an integrative team and institutional resources.

Responsibility will involve audiological management, care coordination, and outreach opportunities within our Cochlear Implant Program. This individual is expected to work closely with our medical director of audiology, who is also the director of the CI program, in addition to reporting the audiology program manager.

Additional responsibilities include:


  • Comprehensive audiometric pediatric services including hearing evaluations, patient examination, intervention, documentation, patient/parent/caretaker education, communication and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as appropriate with the guidelines designated by the department and Nemours Children's Hospital.
  • Actively participates in departmental education activities in order to expand knowledge of patient populations and evidence-based practice.

Secondary Functions:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for families, staff, and outside educational institutions. Provide counseling and education and resources to ensure that children who have hearing and/or communication disorders acquire optimal language skills and academic abilities regardless of the mode of communication. Including staying current with federal and state early childhood intervention and special education law with regards to hearing and speech.

  • Perform outreach to educational and other non-traditional referral sources, this individual will act as the liaison between Nemours and educational institutions throughout the Central Florida area to ensure the educational needs of our patients are understood and provide the information necessary for a seamless transition for students entering new and unfamiliar school environments.

  • Serve as care coordinator for complex and long-term patient programs, this would include tracking patients identified at birth through state newborn hearing screening program, and shepherding families through hearing aid, cochlear implant, and other programs as assigned.

  • Participation in Cochlear Implant monthly meetings and all CI team related collaborative work.

  • This individual will work to decrease loss to follow up for all patients diagnosed with a hearing loss and will assist in the maintenance and tracking of patient information. Additionally the coordinator will aid in the facilitating the flow of patients through the candidacy process for assistive listening devices such as cochlear implants, hearing aids and educational listening aids.

  • Clinical responsibilities include administering age-appropriate audiological pediatric evaluations including middle ear analysis, otoacoustic emissions, auditory brainstem response testing, VRA, CPA and traditional behavioral threshold evaluations in accordance with established protocols with appropriate counseling regarding evaluation results and recommendations for treatment, intervention, follow-up, and referral.

  • Clinical responsibilities include hearing aid evaluations, BAHA evaluations, cochlear implant evaluation, selection, programming, dispensing, electroacoustic/behavioral verification, follow-up, orientation, and counseling. Additional responsibilities include earmold impressions, modifications, troubleshooting, in-office repairs and recommending/fitting assistive listening devices.

  • Audiological monitoring of patients exposed to ototoxic drugs in hematology, oncology, and nephrology with appropriate follow-up.

  • Maintain appropriate state licensure, certification and continuing education as required. Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy, JCAHO, and CARF standards.

  • Maintains high professional standards of conduct and adheres to Nemours Standards of Behavior.

Job Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree in Audiology or its equivalent from an accredited university required. (Audiologists graduating prior to 2007 may hold a Master's Degree in Audiology).
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in clinical audiology, preferably in pediatrics and/or cochlear implants.
  • State of Florida Audiology license or eligible to obtain required.
  • Clinical internship in pediatrics preferred.
  • Familiarity with assessment scales and instrument, techniques of assessment and intervention with pediatric populations.
  • Strong electrophysiological background including ABR, VEMP and VNG testing.
  • Experience with physically and or mentally challenged populations preferred.
  • CPR certification (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) within 6 months of hire.
  • Member of professional specialty organizations (AAA, ASHA, Florida Academy of Audiology etc.), preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
