Job Description:

General Summary: Under minimal supervision a Lead Refrigeration Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and examining refrigeration systems, working specifically with ammonia refrigeration. Strong verbal communication and leadership skills. This role requires providing overall leadership to the local Refrigeration Team, including Techs and Coordinators, while performing preventative maintenance to refrigeration systems. Will respond to any system interruptions and have the flexibility to be on call to conduct emergency repairs. Must be able to perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, and moving around refrigeration systems. Must be able to work and communicate with a diverse variety of individuals, including fellow technicians, supervisors, clients and assist with upkeep of critical documents.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities


1. Provides overall daily leadership to the Refrigeration Team.


2. Plans and schedules maintenance and labor according to business needs.


3. Supports both the PSM and Refrigeration team to maintain all PSM, Refrigeration and Safety documentation retention. (SOP’s, LOTO,s and P&ID,s)


4. Maintains PMs of refrigeration system.


5. Confer with operators and observes, tests, and evaluates operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose root cause of malfunction.


6. Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs.


7. Perform daily chemical testing and logging all test results, making adjustments required to maintain refrigeration & utility system within established limits.


8. Periodic use and maintenance of fitted full face respirator.


9. Assists with inventory control. 


 


Job Specifications


1. High School Diploma or equivalent is required.


2. Technical Degree is preferred.


3. Ammonia Technician II must have at least 10 years + experience. 


4. Must have Technician II and PSM/RMP certification.


5. Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience helpful. 


6. Required to be able to pass and maintain annual medical and pulmonary fit tests for respirator use.


7. English/Spanish bilingual is a plus.


 


Working Conditions


1. Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems and Process Safety Management (PSM) is required.


2. Use of technology such as computers, mobile devices etc. preferred.


3. Refrigerated food manufacturing plants.


4. The environment may be wet or dry and temperatures may range from -20°F to 110°F.


5. Repetitive pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending and lifting of objects in excess of 80 lbs.


6. Requires walking or standing for long periods of time, ascending and descending stairs and ladders.


7. Production demands may require overtime and/or evening or weekend scheduling.


8. Schedules vary from 10-12 hours shift work required.
