ABOUT THE POSITION

Per-Diem

The County of Riverside - Riverside University Health System is seeking Full-Time Per-Diem Psychical Therapists I/II for our Inpatient Medical Center and Outpatient Clinic at our main campus in Moreno Valley, CA.

Candidates with acute hospital experience or outpatient clinic experience are preferred. The schedule for this position is currently Mon - Fri 8am-4:30pm with one Saturday/Sunday weekend rotation required every three weeks, along with holiday rotations.

Physical Therapists provide assessments and plan physical therapy treatments to treat disabilities, injuries and diseases through functional activity training such as gait and transfer training, exercise, soft tissue mobilization and the effective use of properties of water, heat, sound waves and electricity; they enhances the functional independence and health of patients; and perform other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Assess the functional status of the patient through the use of objective evaluative techniques such as, but not limited to, manual muscle testing, ROM, sensory testing, gait analysis, bed mobility and transfer assessment, and balance and coordination.

• Establish short and long-term treatment goals in conjunction with the patient and the physician.

• Administer active, passive, and resistive therapeutic exercises, muscle re-education, and postural exercises; provide gait and other muscle training exercises in order to improve coordination and mobility; provide hydrotherapy treatments, including wound assessment, wound care, dressings, and debridement; perform massage, soft tissue mobilization, and joint mobilization.

• Apply modality treatments of cryotherapy, ultrasound, traction, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, ultraviolet, and interferential.

• Educate patients, families and caregivers regarding home exercise programs and safety with functional activities; assessment, instruction and application of orthotics and prosthetics, and educate patient in their proper use and care

• Educate patients in proper technique for bed mobility, transfers, ambulation, sitting, and standing balance; recommend use of appropriate assistive devices for ambulation.

• Observe patient response, progress in treatment, and reassessment of goals.

• Complete appropriate daily documentation in the medical record regarding patient's response to treatment and progress; complete Medicare and Medi-Cal documentation for treatment authorizations; participate in interdisciplinary conferences; assist in maintaining the environment of care.

• Provide in-service education to staff on posture, body mechanics, lifting, positioning, various therapy related topics, and other topics as required; participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning; maintain age specific competency; may serve as clinical instructor for physical therapy interns.

• Wound Care Assignment: Evaluate, manage, and treat patients who are at risk for integumentary disruption or who present partial or full thickness wounds including, but not limited to, sharp debridement of devitalized tissue; educate patients in self-wound management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
The principles and methods of assessment of function and treatment planning in physical therapy and the roles of the Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant as they relate to improving the functional independence of the patient; neuromuscular function and dysfunction, kinesiology, human development, and of the modalities; the objectives of physical therapy treatment; the operation of therapeutic equipment including ultraviolet, ultrasound, traction, hydrotherapy, negative-pressure wound therapy, electrical stimulation, soft tissue and joint mobilization techniques, safety techniques for functional activities, and indications and contraindications for various treatment modalities.; general knowledge of related therapeutic disciplines, occupational therapy and speech pathology, and their objectives.

Ability to:
Communicate and educate patients, family and staff regarding physical therapy treatments; complete medical record documentation and statistics; assess and understand the impact of complex social situations on functional independence.

License:
Licensed as a Physical Therapist by the Physical Therapy Board with the State of California. (Persons eligible for license may be employed pending successful performance on the licensing examination.)

Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association

Maintains flexibility in coping with a high volume of patients.

Condition of Employment

In accordance with the California Department of Public Health Order dated August 5, 2021, and amended December 22, 2021, health care facility workers who work in indoor settings where care is provided to patients or where patients have access for any purpose must be vaccinated against COVID-19 as follows: first dose of a one-dose regimen or second dose of a two-dose regimen, by September 30, 2021. Effective March 1, 2022, all healthcare facility workers must have their booster , obtain the booster within 15 days of becoming eligible for one, or a declination form on file for the booster. Consideration may be given to candidates who are in the process of completing their vaccination regimen.

The Order allows for workers to be exempt from the vaccination requirements by providing the facility with a declination form signed by the individual stating either of the following: (1) the worker is declining vaccination based on Religious Beliefs; or (2) the worker is excused from receiving any COVID-19 vaccine due to Qualifying Medical Reasons. Workers who are exempted from the vaccination requirements must observe all other infection control requirements, including face coverings and regular COVID testing at the frequency required by their work site.

A requirement of employment is to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or a completed COVID-19 Vaccination Declination form (filled out by the candidate and their medical provider as appropriate), during the pre-employment process. Failure to submit the required documentation may render a candidate ineligible to move forward in the process.

Per Diem employees participate in the 401(a) Temporary and Part-Time Employees' Retirement Plan and are required to contribute 3.75% of salary to the pension plan. The County contributes a matching amount.
