As a Enterprise Architect Sr within PNC’s Enterprise Architecture organization you will be focused on the transformation of data technologies and platform standards and architectures to drive cloud native development and data modernization efforts. This position is primarily based in a location within PNC’s footprint. Preferred locations are listed in this requisition. Responsibilities require time in the office or in the field on a regular basis. Some responsibilities can be performed remotely. Additional locations may be considered.

• Candidate will be accountable for analyzing the business and solution architecture needs for enterprise capabilities and related enterprise strategic roadmaps to support cloud native and application modernization efforts. This senior-level position is responsible for interacting with senior business and technology leaders, SMEs, and solution architecture teams to bridge the gap of current state business needs with the future state objectives culminating in enterprise strategies that will enable PNC to realize our goals.

• This role will partner with various business and technology stakeholders across the enterprise to drive multi-year enterprise capability and technology strategies across various value streams at the enterprise portfolio level.

• The role also will assess and drive cloud-native development and containerization platform strategies to gain operational efficiencies, optimize product offerings and deliver a compelling client value proposition. This architect will ensure that the bank’s enterprise portfolio of capabilities and enabling solutions are leveraged to their full potential.

• This position is highly visible, and highly influential, demanding resources to be strategic, conscientious, and deliberate. This role requires proven thought leadership, networking skills, interpersonal communication, political & emotional intelligence, written communication, and the ability to understand and anticipate emerging business needs and technology capabilities.

Key deliverables in partnership with the other stakeholders are:

• Manage segments of the enterprise business capability model and provide business architecture and solution architecture viewpoints, recommendations, and roadmaps in support of key enterprise strategies.
• Help define and drive the various enterprise roadmaps and solutions enabling key business strategies
• Provide guidance and advice on business architecture designs in complex projects, resolves difficult problems and ensures that all deliverables meet high standards in quality.
• Develop enterprise business architecture strategies, such as the target operating model and roadmap, while considering business strategies and goals.
• Consults on best practices for junior staff in business architecture planning, processes, data modeling and business architecture tools (e.g. UML and BPMN.)
• Provides a systematic analysis on capability requirements.
• Oversees the quality of business architecture project deliverables while ensuring that they are in compliance with relevant standards and processes.
• Measure and demonstrate progress against the strategy and roadmaps
• Work closely with the technology organizations to create various transformation and strategic roadmaps
• Work closely with the enterprise architecture modeling team to help define architecture modeling vision and roadmaps
• Provide thought leadership in proper implementation of processes and tools that best align with the organization’s strategic objectives.
• Serves as a “trusted advisor” and partner with our technology and business stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives through the effective use of technology
• Engages with strategic initiatives and planning activities to identify opportunities to rationalize applications/solutions/technology capabilities
• Create and analyze relevant information and develop technology recommendations that are presented to senior management and business stakeholders

Some key desired skills:

• 5+ years in hands-on software and/or platform engineering including design, implementation, operationalization, and maintenance including backend and/or frontend programming experience
• At least two years of experience working DevOps tools and containerization platforms
• Demonstrated proficiency with software development pipelines, DevSecOps, and cloud-native application architectures including microservices, containerization, service mesh, and API management
• Enterprise Systems thinking & broad understanding of technologies
• Strategic thinking and planning – Proactive and anticipatory in their thinking
• Business and Solution Architecture experience on large technology/transformation programs in a multi-hosting ecosystem
• Experience working in financial services organizations, preferably in a vendor hosted application ecosystem

Job Description


  • Provides subject matter expertise for enterprise architecture, enterprise architecture teams, and clients. Guides on enterprise architecture projects and business relationship management. Creates strategic roadmaps for transitioning to target enterprise future state, in alignment with business and technology goals while analyzing client requirements and collaborating with R&D divisions to provide ongoing support.

  • Leads in the implementation of enterprise architecture strategies and best practices to support business objectives, while focusing on enterprise standards, processes, and methodologies.

  • Provides guidance to enterprise architects on defining technical service capabilities, design attributes, draft enterprise profiles and segment architecture; controls risks and solves complex issues related to enterprise architecture.

  • Maintains relationships with stakeholders, addresses stakeholder requirements and provides clients consultations to shape the future success of enterprise architecture while also mitigating risk.

  • Provides enterprise architecture support by directing teams in baseline, target and roadmap development, transition planning, system and security management and segment architecture.

Work Experience

Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree. Higher level education such as a Masters degree, PhD, or certifications is desirable. Industry relevant experience is typically 8+ years. Specific certifications are often required. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education and experience (including military service) may be considered.
