Primary Role

Responsible performing routine water quality sampling, data entry and recordkeeping. Review and respond to water quality complaints and inquiries and help support the environmental compliance program

Key Accountabilities


  • Under the direction of the Water Quality Manager or Water Quality Lead:

  • Collect and analyze plant, field and regulatory samples following approved methodology.

  • Analyze results, record data and identify process control/regulatory problems.

  • Prepare reagents/standards, maintain log sheets, clean glassware and maintain laboratory in clean and orderly condition.

  • Maintain QA/QC on lab equipment and adjust continuous process control monitors.

  • Assist with environmental compliance data management.

  • Prepare environmental permit renewals.

  • Review environmental advisories

Knowledge/Skills


  • Knowledge of basic chemistry and laboratory techniques

  • Strong demonstrated communications skills (writing, verbal communication, etc.).

  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, social media).

  • Organizational skills, including time management, ability to identify and prioritize obligations., etc.

  • Desire for excellence in all aspects of work.

  • Ability to anticipate requirements and act proactively to support requirements.

  • Know, understand, and effectively implement the goals of the sampling program.

  • Effectively function within the environmental compliance program, including understanding systems, procedures, and processes.

  • Interact with staff and colleagues within the organization.

  • Know, understand, and comply with the law, ethics, and corporate citizenship behavior of American Water.

Experience/Education

The candidate will be e nrolled in a degree program in a STEM field, student of a New Jersey College or University preferred.

Travel Requirements

  • No travel beyond service area.

Work Environment


  • ​​​ Laboratory work will require periods of standing while performing bench top work.

  • May include field work, to include driving company vehicle, and working outdoors.

  • Majority of time will be spent in an office environment

Other


  • Must be able to see and hear well and speak clearly.

  • Position involves physical activity for sample collection. Standing for long periods of time.

  • Ability to drive during daylight and nighttime hours.

  • Must be able to distinguish colors to conduct testing using normal colorimetric methods.

  • A valid driver's license is required.
