Job Description:

A wonderful career opportunity for Healthcare Manager of Accounting is now available with a reputable non profit organization that has been the heart of healing in San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California for almost a century.

Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager will supervise a team of Accounts Payable Specialist, Payroll Specialist, Senior Accountant and Staff Accountant.  The Accounting Manager will lead the monthly financial close and preparation of monthly financial statements for multiple campuses. As part of the financial statement preparation, the Accounting Manager will supervise the analysis of the monthly results to ensure they are accurate and include appropriate accruals.

The Accounting Manager will prepare a financial statement overview memorandum for each set of financials for the Board members and other users with an explanation of results and explain budget variances. The Accounting Manager will also assist with the annual external audit, preparation of the informational tax returns (Form 990) and Medicare/Medi-Cal cost reports.

The Manager of Accounting will be responsible for ensuring timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts and disposition of reconciling items.  The Manager of Accounting will also oversee the payroll function and provide back up for it. On an as-needed basis, the Accounting Manager will also be asked to work on special projects and provide back up support to the Controller. 

The Accounting Manager will assist in the accurate and timely preparation of financial reports by leading the month-end close for 3 companies which includes:

• verifying that all entries and accruals are identified and correctly posted.


• conducting variance analysis and ensuring all account balances are reasonably stated.


• review of investment activity and corresponding journal entries.


• reviewing month end balance sheet reconciliations.

The ideal Manager of Accounting should have Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Business with emphasis in accounting with CPA or a master’s degree preferred. Required experience of five or more years of progressively increasing responsibilities as an Accountant in a healthcare or senior living setting, preferably in a not-for-profit environment.  Three or more years of manager experience is required.
