We are hiring! Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join Atkins in Orlando, Florida as a Sr ITS Design Engineer supporting the Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) General Engineering Consultant (GEC) Program, working as an “extension of staff” in the client’s office in Ocoee, FL (metro Orlando area). This position will provide career growth opportunities through design of FTE toll roadway projects. Relocation assistance is available.
The ideal candidate will have a background in Traffic Engineering, including ITS and/or electrical design, and experience with toll road facilities. Willingness to be a team player and an open communicator is a must.

Typical Job Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for developing and evaluating communication systems between field devices and central traffic management centers utilizing Gigabit Ethernet and ATM optical networks.
Prepare and review plans, specifications and inspection reports.
Review quantity estimates and cost estimates for proposed ITS work.
Responsible for preparing and managing staff hour estimates, concept reports and project scopes.
Assist in the supervision, scheduling, and checking of work of project team members and work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
Coordinate, manage and review the development of conceptual, preliminary and final ITS design plans.
Perform field investigations and inspections and evaluate existing conditions of ITS facilities.
Provide general technical support and assist in development of ITS criteria for design projects.
Assist in performing post-design oversight such as shop drawing overviews and construction requests for information.
Works full time in the client’s office and must be able to communicate well with others.
Represents the client at meetings, making decisions and recommendations on behalf of the client concerning traffic design issues and disseminating the results of the meetings to the appropriate client staff.
May be required to speak in small/medium sized groups with other engineering consultants and as well as the clients to provide engineering direction to the team.
Performs other such duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
What will you contribute?
Bachelor's degree in field(s) of practice.
This level may be achieved with eight (8) years of experience, which must include three (3)with FDOT ITS Design experience.
Experience with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Design Manual (FDM), FDOT Design Standards, FDOT Traffic Engineering Manual (TEM), and Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), but not limited to these resources.
Knowledge of the operations of toll facilities and Express/managed lanes is preferred.

Communication - Strong, effective technical writing, oral and listening communication skills in English including ability to present concepts verbally; good public speaking ability to groups of people.
Analytical & Critical Thinking - Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skill; Ability to develop and review policies, methods, practices, and procedures.
Time Management & Organization - Must have excellent time management and organizational skills.
Adaptability – Ability to adapt to changing needs, requirements, and priorities; lead and communicate to ensure staff are working in a coordinated manner.
Must be able to travel within the state on a limited daily and overnight basis as needed basis to support the client.
Ability to work under pressure of multiple projects.
Knowledge of production support systems and personal computer proficiency. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Professional, MicroStation and AutoCAD is required.
Professional Engineer Registration in the State of Florida is required. If registered in another state, the ability to obtain registration in the State of Florida within six months is a plus.
