The Staff Software Product Manager for Secondary Analysis will be part of a team responsible for product management of the Illumina DRAGEN Bio-IT Platform and other data analysis applications within the Illumina Software Product Portfolio. DRAGEN provides industry-leading accurate, ultra-rapid analysis of genome sequencing data.

The successful candidate in this role will develop a deep understanding of the existing software portfolio, genome analysis algorithms, and market landscape. The position will capture the voice of our customers, identify, and prioritize key features and requirements. This position will work collaboratively across multiple departments, including R&D, Product Marketing, Customer Support, Business Development, and Finance to ensure that our secondary analysis offerings are successful in the market.

The ideal candidate for this position will have technical background and experience with bioinformatics analysis, cloud-based software and platforms, excellent project management skills, and experience bringing software products to market.

Responsibilities:


  • Lead use case development, requirements gathering, requirements analysis and review meetings

  • Represent the user needs and requirements of clinical customers in product development projects as a software marketing core team member

  • Analyze and segment various global markets to determine compelling value propositions, competitive positioning, most desirable product attributes and trade-offs, pricing, and sales forecasts.

  • Coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams to transform user needs into a complete description of software system requirements

  • Work in a collaborative team environment: accurately and fully describe user needs to software UX, development, and testing team members

  • Lead feedback sessions with subject matter experts, customers, and stakeholders.

  • Develop detailed product specifications and business case metrics to enable product development to create purpose-built software solutions.

  • Stay abreast of trends in user experience, technology, and design processes.

  • Evangelize user experience and customer-centric design practices.

  • Liaise with market development, field sales, regional marketing, and corporate marketing functional managers to support the commercialization of clinical solutions.

  • Support the sales team and sales process as needed to implement the marketing strategy and promote products.

  • Must be willing to work in a fast paced, "multithreaded" environment.

  • Must be able to manage a broad-based product offering, serving the needs of varying (and even overlapping) markets.

  • Must be able to communicate requirements and negotiate priorities with both Marketing and Engineering functions.

  • Must have excellent written, communication, and presentation skills, with excellent time and program management skills.

  • Up to 20% travel may be required.

Qualifications:


  • Must have 7+ years of experience working as a software product manager.

  • Must have minimum of 4 years of experience in bioinformatics and genome sequencing space.

  • Must have a Ph.D. or master's degree in bioinformatics, Genetics, Genomics, or Engineering.

Preferred Background:


  • Previous sales, marketing or business development experience preferred.

  • Experience with software development life cycle and scrum methodologies

  • Ability to build business cases with quantitative market analytics, revenue, NPV and profitability projections.

  • Strong initiative, problem-solving ability and sense of ownership when driving projects to completion.

  • Ability to develop support materials (internal and customer-facing) for workflows and applications, and build and deliver compelling, market focused presentations.

  • Exceptional communications skills - with a proven ability to influence at all levels across a matrixed organization.

  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-functional team, strong communication and organizational skills.

The estimated base salary range for the Staff Product Manager role based in the United States of America is: $142,700 - $214,100. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
