A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • You will analyze, research, and evaluate materials and their related fabrication and application processes for the engineering design of and/or application in patient monitoring consumable products.
  • You will interpret specifications, international standards, and regulatory requirements for all aspects of product design, including materials, and apply them to patient monitoring consumable products.
  • You will design test fixtures, equipment, and data analysis methods to evaluate material choices for the design and development of patient monitoring consumables.
  • You will lead and provide guidance in the design and development of patient monitoring consumable prototypes, verification/validation units and product specifications, including material specifications, assembly drawings and manufacturing documentation.
  • You will have continual awareness of new and advancing technologies, including material related advances, and be able to provide conceptual and practical applications for patient monitoring consumable products across the Patient Monitoring portfolio.

Must Have (Minimum Requirements)

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with a focus in Materials plus 4 years of experience in Medical Device or related field
  • OR Master's degree in mechanical engineering with a focus in Materials plus 2 years of experience in Medical Device or related field

Nice to Have ( Preferred Qualifications )

  • 6+ years' experience with flexible material manufacturing, conversion, and assembly processes preferred.
  • Knowledge in the mechanics of adhesion and adhesive failure modes
  • Experience working with plastics for injection molding or extrusion.
  • Demonstrated experience with medical grade materials and complying with RoHS, biocompatibility, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience working with suppliers, vendors, manufacturers.
  • Thorough understanding and wide application of technical principals, theories and concepts in mechanical and material engineering for medical devices
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering analysis techniques and tools (SolidWorks, Matlab, Minitab, Excel, Ansys, etc.)
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in technology and product development, i.e., taking design requirements from concept through final design.
  • General knowledge of related principals including electromechanical, tissue optics, physiological signals, etc.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organization
  • Experience and capability of working with global and/or remote team members.
  • Ability to work on concurrent projects and be able to successfully manage time and priorities.
