Commodity Planner I at Vactor Manufacturing in Streator, Illinois

Job Description:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Procure specific commodities (chassis and related parts) with an emphasis on material availability, quality improvement, on time delivery, inventory reduction, lead time reduction, and customer focus.

  • Develop the most suitable procurement and replenishment arrangements for commodities, including blanket orders, spot purchase orders, supplier stocking arrangements, P-Card utilization, and pull system implementations.

  • Execute releases against blanket purchase orders to ensure a steady flow of material.

  • Manage the MRP reports to ensure the prompt delivery rescheduling due to change in requirements.

  • Resolve differences in counts comparing material received vs. material ordered.

  • Close purchase orders out of the system and work with accounting staff to reconcile debit memos. Also resolve discrepancies between PO price and Invoice price.

  • Coordinate returns of rejected material.

  • Actively participate in Lean Enterprise and Lean Supply Chain initiatives, Strategic Supplier Alliances, and Pull System Projects.

  • Keep inventory investment and inventory losses at a practical minimum.

  • Assist the Supply Base Management group in the Supplier Performance Evaluation process.

  • Resolve purchase order acknowledgement discrepancies with suppliers.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supply Chain Manager.

 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:


  • 3 years purchasing or inventory planning experience in a mfg environment is preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of purchasing/inventory control procedures and internal controls.

  • Ability to represent the Company effectively and professionally in dealing with suppliers.

  • Strong understanding of chassis specifications and chassis modifications is preferred.

  • Strong analytical, communication, planning, follow-through, and accuracy skills required.

  • MS Office/Outlook required; JD Edwards experience preferred.

 

EDUCATION REQUIRED:   High school diploma or equivalent.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.
