Job Description:

The Head of Research and Education Services at The Ohio State University Health Sciences Library leads a team of librarians and staff and is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating effective and evolving research and educational services to the Ohio State health sciences academic and clinical community through a variety of mechanisms.

  • Supervises faculty and non-faculty librarians who provide research, education, and clinical information services.
  • Builds relationships across the health sciences to stay abreast of and respond to evolving information needs
  • Participates in teaching, research, and outreach efforts to assigned liaison colleges, departments or units and/or the general OSU health sciences community.
  • Collaborates with HSL librarians to provide appropriate services and programs to meet evolving information needs.
  • Actively partners with marketing staff in the promotion of HSL research and education services
  • Develops and leads strategic plan initiatives to advance the mission of the HSL.
  • Works collaboratively and serves on committees and task forces, etc., with units of the larger university, especially other leaders within the HSL, the health sciences colleges and University Libraries, to foster productive and inspired research and education innovations.
  • Conducts research and scholarly activities in appropriate venues in order to meet the Libraries' and University's criteria for promotion and tenure.


Responsibilities

20%: Faculty member, maintaining active scholarly work, publication/presentation, and professional service.

50%: Lead development, implementation, and evaluation of research and educational services to the OSU health sciences community. Supervise and work collaboratively with HSL research and education librarians to build relationships across health sciences; oversee professional development/training for HSL librarians and staff related to research and education services. Participate in the development and planning of goals and the strategic plan; lead initiatives in the HSL strategic plan to advance its mission.

30%: Participate in teaching, research, and outreach services to assigned liaison colleges, departments or units and/or the general OSU health sciences community. Teach workshops or courses as appropriate. Collaborate with units of the larger university. Serve on committees and task forces, etc., to foster innovations.

Salary

The target minimum salary for this position is $80,000 annually.

Appointment
This is a full-time, regular, 12-month appointment as a tenure-track faculty member. The candidate will be required to meet university and Libraries requirements for promotion and tenure. Faculty rank at either Associate Professor or Professor are dependent on qualifications and experience.

The Ohio State University Health Sciences Library primarily serves all faculty, staff and students of the Wexner Medical Center and the seven Health Sciences colleges via its physical and its vast digital resources, along with the expertise of its librarians and technical staff. Minimum Education Required

  • Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or a comparable graduate degree in from a non-U.S. university, reviewed on a case-by-case basis.


Additional Education Desired

  • Science or health sciences background (undergraduate, graduate, or equivalent experience)


Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association
  • 2-3 years of experience in a health sciences or academic library with increasing levels of responsibility
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or research support in an academic library setting
  • Increasing levels of responsibility in leadership, planning, and management of library services
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understanding of health sciences library trends including support of research data policy and other research support services


Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a health sciences library with increasing levels of responsibility and supervisory duties
  • Experience as faculty librarian with demonstrated knowledge and support of library faculty
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in evidence-based practice, research data sharing, and expert searching
  • Experience publishing and presenting research and established activity in professional library organizations
