The University Information Security Office facilitate the overall missions of Indiana University by ensuring a resilient and secure information technology environment that protects information resources without impeding their widespread use. Our team is distributed throughout the United States and operates in a virtual manner.
Job Summary
The University Information Security Office is offering part-time security operations technician positions to currently enrolled students. Technicians provide tier 1 technical analysis and response of cybersecurity incidents in support of the mission of the IU community using specialized skills and software. We are committed to protecting Indiana University and the community by engaging in professional, timely, and accurate work.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Performs first-level triage, analysis, and response of routine security incidents, threats, and vulnerabilities
Provides limited security consulting to the IU community
Communicates with and educates the IU community via phone and email regarding: network block resolution, abuse/misuse incidents, and copyright violations
As necessary, escalates ongoing, high impact, or unresolved issues to the appropriate supervisor, tier 2 staff, or security engineers
Updates technical documentation for internal and public consumption
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
Preferred
Currently pursuing a BA, BS, or MS degree in cybersecurity, information policy, risk management, or related field of study.

Technical skills requisite with modern office work environments
Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with a wide range of diverse individuals
Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around and office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Work Location
Bloomington, Indiana or Indianapolis, Indiana
Work Hours
25 hours per week.
We require a commitment to work at least two full semesters.
Schedules are set on a semester basis.
Our office is open regular business hours (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Eastern) Monday - Friday (closed on official University holidays).
