THE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
MTC is excited to announce its Ann Fitzgerald Flemer College Mentorship Program for the summer of 2025 (formerly known as the Pathways to Government College Internship Program). Ann Fitzgerald Flemer was the former MTC Deputy Executive Director who began her 32-year career at MTC as a college intern herself in 1982. Over the following decades, she became a cherished mentor to an entire generation of leaders at MTC and at many of our partner agencies. MTC is proud to name the College Mentorship Program after Deputy Executive Director Flemer, honoring her memory of mentorship and service.
The Program provides students/mentees with the opportunity to gain professional work experience in business operations, planning, budget and financial planning and analysis, treasury and revenue, funding policy, estuary, legislation and public affairs, regional network management and sustainable mobility and operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Applicants should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this mentorship program, you must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited community college or university, four-year undergraduate or graduate program preferably within the nine county San Francisco Bay Area. Individuals who have already graduated (no earlier than December 2024) may be considered up to eight (8) months post-graduation.
We are looking for students who are majoring in or planning to major in fields such as Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, City and Regional Planning, Urban Studies, Public Policy, Government Relations, Marketing, Natural Science, Finance/Accounting, and Information Systems/Computer Science. However, other fields of study and undeclared majors will also be considered.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
For the summer of 2025, we have opportunities in the following areas:
1. Procurement, Risk and Property Management
The mentee will be responsible for gathering, analyzing and reporting on procurement policies of peer agencies to MTC and on Small Business Enterprise (SBE) programs of peer agencies. The mentee will assist the General Services Unit (GSU) with procurement planning and execution, as well as contract and vendor administration and will support outreach efforts for Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) and SBE programs.
2. Technical Application Management
The mentee will work with the Enterprise Application team who provides technical support and maintains systems used for Identity services and Cloud App authentication. The mentee will assist the team as we migrate legacy/on premise systems to various Cloud Services, primarily Microsoft Enterprise 365 as well as the Agency’s implementation of zero trust. The mentee may also be asked to assist with daily operations.
3. Legislation & Public Affairs
The mentee will learn the professional practices and expectations in the field of graphic design in a public agency. Throughout the 8 weeks, the mentee will learn results-driven workflow; how to create compelling designs from concept to completion; print specifications; and scheduling (including the importance of meeting deadlines) as well as pointers on navigating complicated and shifting expectations. The mentee will prepare visuals for both digital and print deliverables. The mentee will have regular conversations with the mentor to talk about career trajectories they can potentially pursue.
4. Technical Support
The mentee will have a backstage pass to learn first-hand the art and magic of providing a wide array of crucial technologies that balance agency needs, staff desires, and operational and budgetary challenges, all while demonstrating a flair for excellent service. The mentee's experience will center on the intersection of communication and technology – and involve a project to provide recommendations and active participation to streamline and enliven our communications. The mentee will work closely with Service Delivery Engagement staff to review, enhance and plan our current and future engagement efforts. The mentee will have access to staff in tech and communications to learn about the range of career opportunities to ensure the show goes on! Access will include staff in direct technical support (the most popular players at work), application and systems management (behind the scenes managing important work tools), infrastructure (vital transportation network for all our data), data visualization (sharing understandable data to the public), security (safeguarding our data), communications (letting people know we’re here and why), leadership (organizing the resources to produce the show).

Help with job postings, reviewing resumes, and scheduling interviews.
Interview Coordination: Set up interviews and support the interview process.
Assist with onboarding as needed.
Learning & Development (L&D)
Collaborate with the Learning Team to consult with employees, gather insights on their learning needs, and design an engaging, tailored learning product.
Manage the communications and serve as point of contact for the High School Internship Program, coordinating communication with participants, providing guidance, and ensuring a smooth and engaging experience throughout the program.
Training Coordination: Help coordinate internal or external training program.
