Responsible for overall design engineering duties to include but not limited to new switches, augments, midspan fiber meets (MSFM), new interconnections (via SIP and TDM), and footprint expansions.
Document circuit and trunk end-to-end designs within MetaSolv (TBS) and with Visio/CAD related drawings.
Utilize MetaSolv workflows and ensure all assigned tasks are completed within prescribed timeframes.
Provide transport design and diversity in compliance with county and municipal emergency agencies policies for the handling of Comcast's E911.
Produce transport, design and planning documents and studies.
Create and manage the transport and TG inventory tabs of the SICP.
Discuss network issues and make recommendations for transport routing, growth, forecasting and network architecture with their assigned Division and other Market Design & PE Voice Engineering teams.
Work with the local markets to assess existing fiber networks (SONET or DWDM) that can be leveraged for Comcast voice initiatives.
Work with vendors to find interconnection opportunities that fit our needs and require the right balance of cost, reliability, accessibility and connectivity to the PSTN.
Coordinate with equipment engineering to ensure that MGX, NGX and switches have been carded to accommodate planned augments and forecasted network expansions. Ensure all equipment diversity needs are communicated to equipment engineering.
Work with responsible teams in order to prepare and track PRs (Purchase Request) and POs (Purchase Order) when required.
Responsible to help maintain Division network expense budget at or below forecasted amounts. Assist Division and Department Managers with tracking and reporting results and or variances on a monthly basis. Contribute to the formation of capital and transport budgets.
Produce and distribute weekly project and status reports to be used in the preparation of key performance reporting (KPI) provided for senior management review.
Attend weekly Divisional update calls and be prepared to provide status on all in progress or planned design activities within assigned Division.
Ensure that all databases associated with departmental activities are updated and maintained accordingly.
Work collectively with Management and team members to define, outline and create SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for the Design Engineering function. Ensure that any changes or revisions to these processes and procedures are understood, implemented and communicated with all departments within NE&TO (upstream and downstream), as well as, assigned Division
Comply with all established SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) including but not limited to workflow, forecasting, design specifications, route diversity and capacity management.
Work closely with the PSTN Capacity Planners to analyze traffic reports and make recommendations concerning network plans based off these reports. Review all capacity issues and take appropriate action to re-route traffic if necessary to avoid customer service interruptions.
Facilitate hand offs with Circuit Provisioning (ASR) team, project and program managers, Test and Turn-up team, contractors and local market contacts on the implementation of new transport elements.
Collaborate with ASR and Test/Turn-up teams to resolve complex facility ordering and testing issues.
Work closely with the Switch Administration and Routing department to resolve network routing issues. Ensure both temporary and permanent back up solutions are in place.
Work closely with Service Desk personnel to prevent customer service interruptions and to analyze and repair problems when they occur.
Work with Network Mapping and Support team to produce network maps displaying network architecture, traffic flows and topographical network representations.
Work closely with Carrier Management department to resolve LEC and vendor issues.
Attend ongoing training as new procedures and equipment are introduced.
Work closely with Technology Engineering, Product Engineering, and Network Engineering to remain knowledgeable about new and emerging technologies.
Maintain professionalism while performing all job duties. Accept and act on all escalations within area of responsibility.
Adhere to and maintain effective policies for network security and integrity.
Ensure that all services are performed to meet quality, safety, and corporate performance objectives.
Minimum 6-10 years experience in telecommunications.
Must be familiar with voice, data, and equipment engineering technologies and have an advanced knowledge of telecommunications equipment, terminology, and standard practices and procedures.
Possess and maintain a working knowledge of all facets of the PSTN (network elements, design and switching).
Must possess familiarity with Telco central office layouts.
Must have knowledge of basic Traffic/AMA principles for both voice and data networks.
Working knowledge of voice and data network principles, as well as familiarity with signaling protocols (i.e. SS7).
Possess knowledge of telecommunication verbiage, CCS, CLLI Code, E-911, CALEA, NPA/NXX, LERG, LEC tariffs, entrance facility, LCR, SIP, IMS, long distance principles and Internet Technology.
Must be knowledgeable of order provisioning process (i.e. ASR, FOC, SUP).
