Reporting to the Center Director, the Senior Center Assistant will provide high-quality administrative support to the Greenwich Audubon Center and programs. Specifically, they will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, staffing the Center's front desk four days each week, staffing the nature store, and encouraging visitors to connect with the Center's mission and educational materials.
This is a 28 hours / week schedule, Thursdays through Sundays from 9:00-5:00pm.
Compensation:
Serve as the first point of contact for people visiting the Center, ensure a warm and welcoming experience, answer questions, and respond to requests as needed.
Staff the front desk and nature store, and coordinate and train volunteers to assist with those roles.
Inventory and order store merchandise as necessary in accordance with the seasonal store purchase order calendar.
Serve as the Center's point of contact for private and ticketed events:
Respond to all event booking inquiries and other public communication.
Coordinate and schedule (but not staff) any small-scale weekend events such as birthday parties, weekend nature walks and story times, etc.
Assist with the planning and execution of large-scale Center events, including the Center's Fall
Festival / Hawk watch Weekend.
Assist with electronic submission of proposals, reports and correspondence as needed.
Manage the Center's main email inbox, social media accounts (with support from Audubon communications team), and the general phone line/ phone line voicemail, including transferring calls to other staff members when appropriate.
Maintain front desk and adjacent area in a clean and tidy manner.
Support and assist other center staff with animal care as necessary, limited to two days/week.
Other job-related duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required (Associate degree preferred) and 1-2 years' demonstrated office administration experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a can-do attitude are essential.
Proven ability to track and move tasks / projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently, as well as part of a small team.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Critical thinking skills and a problem-solving attitude.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word and Excel; experience with Point-of-Sales systems a plus.
Ability to exercise discretion and maintain strict confidentiality.
Interest in the environment and conservation, knowledge of local ecology encouraged.
Experience working with and taking care of animals.
Background in child care, camps, or youth education programs preferred but will train.
Bookkeeping and contract preparation experience a plus.
Bilingual in English and Spanish desired.
Must have reliable transportation.
