The Supplier Quality Manager is responsible for the food safety and quality (FSQ) of materials used in and for the manufacture of Hudsonville Ice Cream (HIC) products. This role, with the support of quality and purchasing management, is responsible for executing the Supplier Quality Strategy and driving its continuous improvement and effectiveness. Through the execution and improvement of HIC's Supplier Quality Management program, this role will perform analysis of supplier performance and review of critical incidents to ensure root cause analysis and follow through on CAPAs.
Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee Supplier Quality Management and Compliance Programs for existing suppliers and on-going compliance and verification of legacy suppliers, including: partnering and aligning with procurement's sourcing strategy, owning the quality and food safety approval or raw, primary packaging and off-site warehousing, clear and consistent communication of food safety and quality expectations, perform on-site auditing to ensure our food safety and quality expectations are met and findings are corrected
Identify and mitigate risks of new suppliers, manufacturing sites, and raw materials via risk assessments, on-site auditing, pathogen testing, analytical testing, COA requirements etc.
Monitors Supplier Performance through use of supplier scorecard to drive corrective actions, service improvements and track costs. This is a collaborative and aligned effort with the procurement team.
Capable of training others on owned quality systems
Collaborate with Supply Chain to manage raw material inventory with respect to best by dates.
Ensure that all necessary systems and procedures are in place to satisfy all customer requirements and audits.
Work closely with quality teammates to identify potential supplier-related consumer complaints - work with suppliers as necessary to resolve.
Own monitoring supplier food safety or quality issues. May assist or lead investigations through the root cause analysis. Ensures CAPAs are robust and completed by the supplier.
Develop, implement, and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, microbiology, food science or related field preferred
Three or more years of food manufacturing experience with one or more years of quality management experience.
SQF Practitioner or equivalent, and internal auditing experience required.
Experienced in HACCP, FSMA, SQF/BRC requirements, and regulatory requirements.
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with frontline employees, peers, and leadership.
Physical Requirements
Regularly required to stand at least 9 hours, walk, bend, and use both hands for repetitive grasping, and lifting.
