Another Source’s client, Lewis & Clark College, is recruiting a Campus Safety Supervisor to join their team in Portland, OR. 

As the Campus Safety Supervisor, you will assist the Director in the daily operation of the Campus Safety Department. Duties include immediate supervision of officers and dispatchers, training, scheduling, shift assignments, review, and investigation of complaints about staff performance, and coordination with other college departments. In this role you will serve as the Director in the absence of the Director.

How You will Spend Your Time: 

Supervision: 

  • Supervise Campus Safety officers and dispatchers on the evening and night shifts.  

  • Provide supervisory direction regarding staff actions, concerns, and complaints, and resolving personnel problems at the first level for all Campus Safety personnel.  

  • Inform all employees of changes and interpretation/application of policy or procedures related to safety and security operations.  

  • Complete staff performance appraisals.  

  • Provide significant input to the Director on decisions relating to hiring, firing, promotion, demotion, and/or correction action for department employees.  

  • Schedule employees for shifts, overtime, and holiday coverage.  

  • Provide, schedules, and assist with instruction of department in-service trainings.  

  • Primary on-call Supervisor. Make decisions in the absence of the Director.  

  • Provide DPSST unarmed training for Campus Safety Officers.  

Campus Safety  

  • Provide input to campus partners about security/safety concerns.  

  • Function as a Campus Safety officer when needed.  

  • Collaborate with campus partners leading the yearly emergency drill.  

  • Act as a liaison between the department, the three schools – and when appropriate – neighbors and other community members, making recommendations regarding safety /security related issues.  

  • Establish and maintain a close working relationship with the Campus Living, Facilities Services, and other campus departments and groups, maintaining consistent, clear communication of Campus Safety’s role.  

  • Occasionally complete important investigations. Prepare appropriate investigative reports or summaries. Review/dispose of physical evidence collected and submitted by Campus Safety officers, assuring that evidence is properly identified, tagged, and secured.  

  • Assist officers in preparing and conducting classes on crime and fire prevention for the campus community. Conducts security/safety surveys and inspections of all college facilities; conducts and evaluates fire drills within the campus. 

  • CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and related emergency training; includes both preparing and helping lead training regimens. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:   

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).  

  • At least three years of experience as a college campus safety Officer.  

  • At least two years of supervisory and management experience in college campus safety, or a combination of the same level of experience in college campus safety/private sector.  

  • Have or obtain state (DPSST) certifications as an unarmed professional, Supervisory manager, and Unarmed Instructor immediately after hire.  

  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification. 

  • Working knowledge of Oregon criminal statutes.  

  • Oral and written communication skills.  

  • Knowledge of crime scene investigation and preservation of evidence.  

  • Ability to identify narcotics.  

  • Knowledge of sexual assault investigation procedures. 

  • Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office programs and Adobe software.  

  • Ability to remain calm in emergency and crisis situations.  

  • Working knowledge of crisis management issues and appropriate response; includes working knowledge of NIMS and ICS.  

  • Possess sound judgment in decision making.  

  • Ability to work with a diverse campus community. 

 

PREFERRED QUAIICATIONS:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree.  

  • DPSST Executive and Supervisory Manager License  

  • At least five years’ experience as a college campus safety or private sector security officer.  

  • At least two years of supervisory and management experience in college campus safety, or a combination college campus safety/private sector.  

  • At least two years of experience and demonstrated ability using different computer operating systems (PC and Mac), software programs (File Maker Pro) and website applications (Google).  

  • At least one year of demonstrated experience using ICS in a college campus safety or private sector setting.  

  • Security experience acquired in the Armed Forces will be considered Work.
