Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Aid for Federal Programs, this position has primary responsibility for the federal verification process and will work with a team to help coordinate the returning student aid process. This position must be able to manage multiple processes that overlap in time and workload. The verification process is a key component to our federal compliance and must be monitored with keen attention to detail. This requires careful monitoring of the federal data, properly reading a federal tax return transcript, understanding what is required and ensuring that all data for the type of verification is complete before aid is approved to be disbursed. This position is responsible for counseling students, parents and staff on multiple aspects of the financial aid process including some challenging conversations where discretion, patience and attention to the detail of financial data is key.

This position along with 2 financial aid officers helps manage the Upperclass renewal process of applying for financial aid. This position must effectively communicate with students and parents regarding missing or incomplete information and help manage the flow of the process in order to ensure that 2600+ students receive their financial aid awards by the end of the summer. Any student who has been awarded Institutional or Federal financial aid must meet certain criteria before we are allowed to disburse their financial aid to their student account. This position is responsible for monitoring those students who are incomplete for disbursement (ID) by communicating on a bi-monthly basis what documents are missing, being the point of contact for questions/issues and reviewing documents, including tax returns, as they arrive in the office.

S/he will also be responsible for the following:

  • Communicate with approximately 700 students who are selected for Verification and are receiving federal financial aid.
  • Ensure changes to all Verification forms are made prior to the start of the academic year.
  • Manage the daily download of data from the department of Education as well as the College Board
  • Send and receive corrections to federal data through Edconnect
  • Troubleshoot issues with documents received from our document imaging service.
  • Field calls & emails regarding Incomplete or missing information
  • Back up to front desk calls at busy times

Basic Qualifications

  • 3 years professional office experience.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience working in a financial aid office in a college setting strongly preferred. Excel, Word, automated financial aid systems (Ecconnect, CPSonlne, PowerFAIDS strongly preferred); excellent interpersonal, oral/written communication, customer service skills
