Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Sponsored Research Officer, this position is a member of the FAS Temporary Research Administration Consulting (FASTRAC) team. FASTRAC is a program intended to provide direct support to FAS and SEAS departments and centers by filling short term research administration (RA) vacancies and providing other services using experienced administrators skilled in pre- and post-award grant management.

Primary Responsibilities: Assists FAS and SEAS departments and center administrators during RA vacancies and will be responsible for providing pre- and post-award sponsored administration support in collaboration with department staff. Operates with a great deal of independence, prioritizing, balancing concurrent duties in multiple areas of FAS and SEAS and communicating priority changes rapidly and effectively to all clients. When requested by department, may work directly with one or more Principal Investigators to expedite sponsored administrative needs. Duties will also include helping departments during peak proposal submission periods and working with departments, faculty, and the RAS Research Development team to facilitate the preparation and submission of major and/or collaboration-intensive proposals. If requested, and depending upon availability, the position will aid departments with temporary post-award projects such as audit preparation and award closeouts, and provide on-boarding, mentoring, and one on one coaching to departmental RA personnel.

Secondary Responsibilities: Additional duties may include designing and facilitating research administration professional development opportunities. Position will also collaborate with FAS Finance Administrative Systems Assistance Program (ASAP) personnel to ensure complete sponsored and non-sponsored financial coverage when warranted.

Position will perform other related job duties as required.

Basic Qualifications

Minimum 6 years sponsored research experience or 4 years Harvard sponsored research administration experience.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, communication, computer, and financial skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion.
  • Abilty to perform both pre- and post-award management duties.
  • Must be able to understand and interpret new and complex research policies and procedures, proposal instructions, and award terms and conditions.
  • Significant knowledge of federal research regulations and the policies of prevalent Federal and Non-Federal sponsors.
  • Must welcome working in varied environments and be able to adapt easily to multiple work and communication styles.
  • Extensive knowledge of Harvard, FAS and SEAS systems ( GMAS, FASSPAR, CREW, HCOM, ecrt, EQUIPSTER, Fixed Assets, etc.) preferred.
