Position Title:  Fiber Engineer/Estimator                 

Position Summary

The Fiber Engineer - Estimator position will create the Outside Plant Fiber route design and the project cost estimate, for projects involving the Crown Castle fiber network and DAS systems within a geographical region of the United States, which may include Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. This position will represent Crown Castle in a professional manner in front of customers (internal and external), utilities, municipalities, and contractors; and, be able to work cross-functionally with Sales, RF Engineering, Implementation, Operations, Regulatory, Finance and Product Development.

Essential Job Functions

Tasks to include, but are not limited to:

  • The ability to create optimal fiber route designs and value-engineer fiber designs, working with office and field personnel.

  • Add, create, and understand scopes of work for fiber engineering and general outside plant construction for use in pricing estimates; including aerial, conduit, buried, trenching and fiber optic materials and equipment.

  • Manage RFP deliverables and work cross-functionally on scoping optimal designs

  • Create fiber designs utilizing fiber engineering tools, including Google Earth and various GIS software

  • Working cross-functionally, develop Distributed Antenna System (DAS) designs from indoor and venue applications.

  • Develop cost estimate models using the Crown Castle Business Process Management tools and analytically assessing them (risks and assumptions) from design and cost data.

  • Develop right-of-way analysis of the proposed fiber plant, such as the identification of utility and permits needed for a project.

  • Develop project schedules in response to RFP’s, including compiling, assessing and publishing timelines for all major project drivers, identifying the critical path and

  • Manage multiple projects across a region and have the ability to travel to project locations across the United States in order to effectively produce deliverables and facilitate project teams.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with Sales and customers to identify potential opportunities for network growth and revenue recognition for existing and new Crown Castle markets.


  • BS/BA with preference to Civil, Construction, or Electrical, Engineering Degrees

Experience/Minimum Requirements

  • Three (3) years of fiber engineering and construction management experience or equivalent

  • Three (3) years of field construction management experience with preference to both outside plant and inside plant fiber construction
