SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES

The Assistant Director is responsible for planning, organization, development, and direction for the overall operation of the housekeeping services, recycling services and solid waste services for all Educational and General (E&G) facilities. With a total staff of 147 plus, housekeeping operations (2 managers, 9 coordinators and 130 custodial workers) works all 3 shifts (6:30am-3:00pm, 3:00pm-11:30pm and 11:00pm-7:30am) and recycling services (1 coordinator and 5 maintenance workers) works first shift (7:30am-4:00pm). Interact with faculty/staff/students at all levels as needed to assess and manage service quality; develop and maintain policies and procedures for housekeeping and recycling services; assess personnel performance through constructive feedback; manage work within budget parameters; foster teamwork and employee development. Other duties as assigned.

Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

* Bachelor s degree in Facilities Management, Hospitality Management, or a related field

* 10 years of direct management experience in institutional housekeeping

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* International Executive Housekeepers Association (IEHA) certification (REH or CEH)

* Management experience in multi-shift institutional housekeeping at a university

* Management experience in institutional recycling programs

* Direct experience in job safety analysis, training and record keeping

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAS)

* Knowledge in standard business computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and email

* Working knowledge of hazard communication program methods and requirements

* Proficient skills in standard business computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and email

* Ability to communicate effectively
