Senior Accountant - Accounts Payable at Rubio's

Job Description:

The Senior Accountant, Accounts Payable is responsible for protecting the Company’s assets and contributing to all aspects of the Accounts Payable function. This awesome individual supervises the daily functions of Accounts Payable and 3 direct reports.

 

Specifically, this position is responsible for reconciling general ledger accounts, analyzing reports, leading efficiency initiatives, and projects assigned by the Assistant Controller.

 

Job Duties 

• Supervise up to 3 Accounts Payable team members including recruitment, training, development, performance feedback, and retention. Provide direction and oversight of work performed.


• Performs monthly close tasks such as journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis. Perform technical research in accordance with US GAAP.


• Complete account reconciliations such as accounts payable, prepaid expenses and accruals.


• Reconciles accounts payable aging sub ledger to general ledger and ensures outstanding balances are paid timely.


• Improves, documents and maintains accounts payable processes for each vendor.


• Review journal entries and account payables for completeness and accuracy. Review general ledger activity, research and correct account discrepancies. Ability to independently research and address all reconciling items on a monthly basis.


• Assist in consistently streamlining financial and business processes to identify cost savings, efficiencies and improvements, as well as monitoring and communicating the operating effectiveness of internal controls.


• Ability to take ownership of various ad hoc reports and projects as assigned by the Assistant Controller or Controller, including cross training team members.


• Assist in providing necessary monthly, quarterly and annual audit requests for management and internal/external auditors.

 


Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.

Experience:  Large company experience with revenues over $125 million preferred. SEC reporting experience preferred. Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience required.  Multi-unit restaurant or retail experience a plus.

Knowledge:  Strong analytical and technical accounting skills, to include a thorough knowledge of US GAAP and SOX compliance. Above average knowledge of accounting functions and processes, Excel spreadsheet preparation, filing systems and general office and phone skills.

Language Skills:  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  (Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.)

Math Skills: Excellent math skills required.

Other Skills:  Must have strong computer skills, especially a high proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office.  Great Plains or other ERP system knowledge a plus.

Abilities:  Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.  Ability to perform multiple tasks, seek solutions, ask questions, be detail-orientated and work in a fast-paced team orientated office environment. Must be highly organized and self-motivated. Ability to use good independent judgment.
