The Associated Students of the University of California (ASUC) Student Union is a focal point for student life, and operates as a partnership with the ASUC Student Government and as a department within the Division of Student Affairs. The ASUC Student Union serves all students and seeks to create an inclusive campus community, thereby enhancing the student experience at UC Berkeley. To this end, the ASUC Student Union provides quality services and programs that foster experiential co-curricular development opportunities for students. With direction from its Board, the ASUC Student Union derives income from student fees, retail operations, vending, food service, and a variety of self-operated units, such as the Art Studio and Events Services. In addition, the ASUC Student Union provides student group advising services, leadership opportunities, and student development programs through the LEAD center.
Reporting to the ASUC Student Union Executive Director, the incumbent is responsible to the Student Technology Fund Committee in the role of overseeing and administering the Student Technology Fund, which collects about $2.5M annually. The incumbent takes a strategic long-term view of campus technology beyond the Fund so that she/he can provide guidance to students and to the University about how the Fund can support unmet technology needs and better integrate existing cross-campus technology initiatives.
STRATEGIC PLANNING AND CAMPUS ENGAGEMENT:
*Develops policy proposals and recommendations to guide and support the broader strategic direction for the STF and technology initiatives at Cal.
*Monitors and analyzes changes in external regulations, legislation, and UC policies for impact on the Campus, specifically related to UCOP technology mandates.
*Provides subject matter expertise to be able to evaluate the feasibility, effectiveness, and long-term impact of technologies proposed.
*Serves as a main point of contact for the STF Committee and student and University leadership regarding national trends in the use of student-initiated referenda and/or other revenue streams to address technology needs.
DEVELOPMENT, OVERSIGHT, AND REPORTING:
*Develops and offers orientation program for new student, faculty, and staff grantees and develops community to support technology program goals among existing grantees through creation of new programming such as an annual showcase and/or pairing program.
*Advises STF project grantees, tracks grantee progress, and ensures projects are meeting STF grant and reporting policies and procedures.
*Creates and manages new initiatives to support STF s transparency, especially with regards to financial spending and access to funded projects.
STUDENT STAFF OVERSIGHT AND ADVISING:
*Serves as point of contact for the Student Technology Council.
*Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises two part-time Student Assistants.
STUDENT UNION SUPPORT:
*Advises Student Union staff and leadership about issues of student technology and SU business practices that could be improved by technology.
*Develops and oversees a new ASUC-based equipment checkout program that serves all registered student organizations, including maintaining an inventory and determining lifespan and refresh cycle for all hardware.
*Knowledge of current technology issues and trends, particularly in the context of higher education.
*Familiarity with higher education technology systems, hardware, and software and student user experience.
*Experience interpreting and relaying technical information to non-technical audiences.
*Demonstrated ability to develop and implement goals and action plans for areas of responsibility, specifically with new campus technology initiatives and projects.
*Experience designing, implementing, and facilitating trainings, workshops, and events promoting use of certain new technologies or technology education.
*Understanding of campus technology resources (computing labs, hardware lending programs, student information systems, etc.) and procurement processes (i.e. enterprise software licensing, hardware standards, etc.).
*Experience managing a budget and finances.
*Experience advising students and/or student organizations as well as working with faculty and staff within a collegiate setting.
*Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of campus community, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively one-to-one, in small groups, and in public speaking contexts.
*Experience in a leadership capacity facilitating cross-functional partnerships and collaborations.
*Experience managing multiple assignments and projects successfully in a fast paced, politically charged environment.
*Ability to solve problems and mediate effectively with diverse communities.
*Analytical/problem-solving skills. Strong skills in analyzing and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals.
*Experience assessing existing products and services and identifying opportunities to improve procedures and practices.
*Ability to manage and develop content for a website and social media outlets.
*Ability to write precise, well-organized emails, letters, and proposals while using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.
*Bachelor s degree in related field is required or equivalent years of experience.
*Master s Degree in related field.
*2-3 years professional experience in a science / technology field.
*Experience working in a collegiate setting.
Salary & Benefits
Salary is commensurate with experience. Hiring range is $65,000-$75,000/annually.
